In the current development trend, building up environmentally-friendly, safe and sustainable agriculture is indispensable. Towards suitable development in the new context, farmers in Binh Duong have bravely changed to hi-tech based agricultural models, thereby affirming new steps of the agricultural sector during the local economic process.
Hi-tech based agricultural models
To date, many hi-tech based agricultural models have loomed large across the province with the average income of VND500mln-VND600mln/hectare/crop. The whole province has also developed 4 hi-tech agricultural parks with 979 hectares in total. Along with the 4 hi-tech agricultural parks, the province’s total farming area with new sci-tech application is more than 860 hectares.

For better development, provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DoARD) last year teamed up with relevant units to carry out 23 models on agricultural and fishery promotion with 224 tentative points; organized 181 training courses on how to produce safe vegetables and fruits under VietGap’s standards, how to prevent various pestilent insects…The department also coordinated with the local Farmers’ Associations at all levels to kick off 7 conferences, 23 training courses and 10 tours, opportunely meeting the local farmers’ demand of applying sci-tech advancements into production.
In the 2015-2020 period, according to provincial DoARD Deputy Director Pham Van Bong, the department will further join hands with sectors and localities to build an experimental and training station for transferring sci-tech advancements in Bau Bang district’s Long Nguyen commune and an animal test station in Thuan An town’s Vinh Phu ward. The department will suggest provincial Department of Science and Technology to consider and fund over VND8.6bln in investment capital for the two stations; coordinate with sectors to further make a shift of the local agricultural structure towards urban and hi-tech development in association with processing industry while absorbing more private investment sources in the field of agricultural and rural development.
High economic efficiency
Possibly speaking, the local farmers’ determination to hi-tech application into production has contributed to raising economic efficiency in agricultural production.
Nguyen Minh Dung, residing in Chanh My ward’s My Hao quarter in TDM city has successfully developed a new agricultural production model with high economic efficiency. In 2011, he was selected as one of beneficiaries of a project on “Building up the model of safe vegetable growing by water cultivate technique” in TDM city, co-implemented by the People’s Committee of TDM city and the Institute of Biotechnology-Food Technology under HCM city University of Industry. So far, his vegetable garden has been expanded to 450 square meters. For an farming area of 200 square meters only, he can secure the average income of 30mln per crop. There are such two crops every year. Hence, his family has enjoyed a better life.
The local farmers have also researched and sorted out hi-quality nurslings in line with conditions on soil and weather of each locality for better results. Hi-tech based agricultural models developed by farmers have contributed to raising the economic efficiency of the local agricultural sector. Therefore, the province will further boost support activities for farmers in the field of transferring sci-tech advancements in production; brace up enterprises to get involved in advanced agricultural models, apply sci-tech advancements in building farmsteads, contributing to restructuring the local agricultural sector.
