Update: 27-05-2011 | 00:00:00

Recently, an unfortunate accident hit family of Mrs. Bui Thi Xoan, living in Duoi Chuot Hamlet, Tam Lap Commune, Phu Giao District. One night Mrs. Xoan and her husband Nguyen Van To (1975) unluckily fell into a 13-m deep deserted well during their trip to catch toads.

The accident has killed Mr. To and left Mrs. Xoan with a broken leg and pelvic bones. Now that lying in bed, Mrs. Xoan is worried for her three little children (born in 2007, 2009 and 2010) and a more than 80-year-old mother who now takes care of and nurtures them. Everything in the house including personal care, she can not do. The elderly 80-year-old mother had to take care of everything on her burden. Seeing me, Xoan burst out sobbing: "It hurts me so bad, sister. Pains of injuries are as much as pains caused by a sudden bad luck.

Xoan recalled: "In the night of May 7, I and my husband went out to catch toads in rubber plantation. Because it was dark, I accidentally fell into a well about 13 meters deep and one of my legs was hang on the well wall. On seeing that, despite being leg disabled, he jumped into the well to save me. But his jump was a fatal one. Both could not stand up. But in the night without a soul away, our calling for help was left in desperate. Our distress was at 10:00 P.M but only by the next morning did they found us. Not being able to withstand the injuries, he was gone forever."

Xoan's family is of a poor family for many years in the commune. Having no land for crop, they earn their living by catching the toads and collecting rubber latex scattering on the ground. They are living in a house offered by Funds for poor people. Her oldest child is now gone to the North to be supported by Xoan's uncle. Meanwhile, the 4-month-old child is nurturing by grandmother. Xoan and her husband are very hardworking to make ends meet. On rainy nights, they hunt for toads to make foods and offer more nutrition to children.

Cost of treatment for her Xoan in Cho Ray Hospital after the accident until Sunday now reached nearly VND 40 million. The family get this to treat Xoan also from the charity contribution of local authority and neighbors. Due to expensive treatment, the family has asked to go home and let her stay in bed. Until Xoan recovers, she will be operated again. After two surgery now, she has not yet recovered. Xoan said in tears: "The treatment is very expensive for me, we are poor and do not know how to manage". As far being the hospital, the family life is relying on the sympathy of relatives, neighbors. Now my husband died, I stay put in bed, the family's income is no longer, daily meals are hard let alone the treatment!"
