Part 1: Ben Cat develops urban areas to cater for industry

Located at Binh Duong province’s northern area, Ben Cat district is a fastest growing industrial locality in the province. To cater for the growth, the district has focused on synchronous development of infrastructure facility, especially urban development in a bid to turn it into a modern town by 2015 and an inner district of the to-be central-run Binh Duong city by 2020.

Impressive result

After the Southern Vietnam Liberation Day, despite difficulties, Ben Cat managed to overcome difficulties and challenges. By its efforts, from an agricultural district, Ben Cat has become an industrial district with industrial density of 87.2%, service 7.3% and agriculture 5.5%. The local people’s life has been improved with an average income of over VND35mil per capita per year.

Notably, over the past 10 years Ben Cat has created breakthroughs of building industrial parks such Viet Huong 2, An Tay, My Phuoc 1, My Phuoc 2, Bau Bang… These industrial parks have become reliable addresses for local and foreign investors, contributing to lure nearly 2,000 projects, 723 of which are local projects, capitalized at VND4,310bil and 466 foreign ones with the total capital of over $3bil.

Urban development for industrialization

Ben Cat’s rapid industrial development is in need of a homogeneity of development of urban, trade and service infrastructure. With nearly 2,000 local and foreign businesses, tens of thousands of experts, engineers and managers have worked for these enterprises. In addition, Ben Cat has developed education and training strongly.

At present, My Phuoc township has had 2 universities under construction. They include Thu Dau Mot University and Vietnam-Germany International University with the scope of hundreds of hectares. The situation has created an essential demand on accommodation, entertainment and so on.

Therefore, the locality is in need of planning of residential, urban areas to solve accommodation for local residents in the trend of modernization and industrialization.

Under urban development in line with the provincial party committee’s instruction, the locality has set focus on sustainable development. Firstly, the district has built infrastructure facilities to lure investors. As a result, SP Setia Group of Malaysia has chosen Ben Cat to develop its investment. The group has co-invested in Ecolakes My Phuoc eco-urban area with the capital of $600mil.

Under planning, Ben Cat will be a town by 2015 and a district by 2020. Therefore, basic investments in urban areas are key goals for its sustainable growth.
