Nguyen Trong Hung previously spent much money on build a facility for breeding 40 dairy cows. He failed to develop this model, but was determined to maintain the facility to raise other animals.

Hung said that the food for deer and stags is very simple, including various leaves and fruits in his garden. According to him, the model of raising deer and stags is very easy, but brings hi-economic efficiency. It is also very suitable to elderly laborers in the rural region.

After two-year breeding, a stag can provide its horn weighing around 0.4-0.6 kg a year while a deer can give its horn weighing around 1.2kg-1.4kg a year. If having good care, deer and stags can give their horn from 18 to 25 years. The demand for deer and stag horn is very great with the average price of VND14mln for every kg of stag and VND10mln for every kg of deer.

A pair of one-year-old breeding stags can be sold at VND17mln-VND18mln while one-year-old breeding deer are priced at VND30mln-VND35mln per pair. According to Hung, his family earns more than VND500mln in profit from the animal husbandry model every year.

So far, Hung’s family has developed a herd of 50 deer and stags and now intends to expand another deer, stags-breeding establishment in Dau Tieng district’s An Lap commune.
