Phu Giao district Veteran’s Association helps each other to do business

Upholding the tradition of Uncle Ho's soldiers, in recent years, Phu Giao district Veteran’s Association have helped each other to develop home-based business, construct new rural, contributing to improving life, reducing poor households rate, raising high-income members rate.

Efficient use of loans

In recent years, veterans in Phu Giao district have overcome difficulties, helped each other to escape from poverty, get rich, and built new rural. . In the period 2009- 2014, to facilitating members, municipal Veteran’s Association disbursed more than VND15 billion from Social Policy Bank, funds, and rotation loans without interests for more than 1,350 members. Apart from these funds, the governmental assistance in science technology has helped many individuals in using efficiently loans to enrich themselves.

Phu Giao district Veteran’s Association Chairman Nguyen Duc Tien said, most veterans used efficiently loans, which were invested in livestock, farming, perennial crops with high profitability, and services, increasing annual income of member’s family, improving member’s living standard.

Engaging actively in movements

Phu Giao district Veteran’s Association has also coordinated with local Party and government to implement the new rural construction program. Accordingly, the Association has encouraged members to contribute funds to repair and renew more than 8 km of rural roads, donate 1,500m2 of land, cut off more than 100 rubber trees, contribute more than VND16 million in cash and thousands of working day to clear rural roads, drains, canals... in order to change the rural face to be more clean and beautiful.

Besides home-based business development, many members have engaged actively in local movements. Specifically, in response to exemplary veteran movement, many members have become examples in all areas of life for the young generation to follow. Some examples are: veteran Truong Van Ut, Do Van Lan in Tan Long commune; Le Hoang Plan, Do Van Dan in Vinh Hoa commune; Pham Xuan Nghiep, Duong Ba Uoc in Phuoc Vinh town…

According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Tien, during 5 years from 2009 to 2014, the district had nearly 130 members escaping from poverty. By the end of 2014, the proportion of wealthier members reach over 80%, the number of poor members decreased by 12, accounting for 0.68% total members.

The Association has mobilized and offered 26 gratitude houses, great unity houses, compassionate houses worth over VND1.1 billion to poor members. The Association will continue to promote these results to contribute to the successful implementation of socioeconomic development’s tasks of Phu Giao district in 2015 and subsequent years.
