President Sang hails WB support for Vietnam

 President Truong Tan Sang greatly valued assistance the World Bank has given to Vietnam at a March 30 reception in Hanoi for WB Country Director Victoria Kwakwa who came to bid farewell at the end of her tenure in Vietnam.

WB-funded projects have helped Vietnam reduce poverty and fulfil the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as a contribution to boosting socio-economic development in many localities of Vietnam, Sang told his guest.

Regarding the country’s economic growth and loan using, the State leader said to achieve MDGs, Vietnam needs more material resources, including WB assistance.

He said he hopes together with financial assistance, the WB would continues policy consultations to help Vietnam accumulate international experience in policy making.

President Sang asked the WB to assist Vietnam overcome difficulties caused by natural disasters such as drought, saltwater intrusion and prolonged climate change in the Mekong Delta region.

WB Country Director Kwakwa in turn affirmed her organization’s willingness to work together with Vietnamese ministries, sector and localities to work out effective solutions for climate change adaptation.

She suggested the President authorize negotiations on projects regarding rural transport, dam safety, economic credit management and budget.
