Provincial Women’s Union: Many models help women in economic development

Over the past 5 years, provincial Women's Unions at all levels implemented many programs and models to help members and women step by step rise up and increase their income. Many women got involved in startup and took fruits with the local Women’s Unions at all levels.

Development in many fields

According to a report by provincial Women's Union, women currently account for 50% of the local population and 49.3% of the local workforce. Over the past 5 years, the province created jobs for over 215,000 workers, including 106,000 female ones or 49% of total. The local women continued upholding their role of ownership, dynamism, creativity, confidence in business startup; effectively implemented the emulation movements of "Women creative in business startup", "Good women in production and business", "Good workers, creative workers", contributing to bringing the province's economy to significant growth amid difficulties.

In agricultural production and rural development, women actively contributed to the movement of building new-style rural areas with the good implementation of the emulation movement "Sharing efforts in new-style rural construction”, significantly contributing to the local new-style rural construction, improving the material and spiritual lives of the local people. Many women were active in accessing information, constantly creating, boldly applying sci-tech advancements, high technologies in production and production management. They also applied sci-tech advances, shifted the structure of crop plants and domestic animals with high quality and efficiency.

There were many outstanding women with hi-tech application, creating lots of clean agricultural products, greatly contributing to the "One Commune One Product" (OCOP) Program. The local female workers also continued preserving, restoring and improving the quality of traditional crafts. They established cooperatives, cooperative groups, small and medium enterprises, got involved in making and trading the local traditional products, creating jobs for many workers. Since then, many products have built up their brand names and stood firmly in the market, contributing to promoting the local key economic sectors.

In industrial production, trade and services, there are nearly 10,000 enterprises owned by women (accounting for 20% of total). The province's industrial production gained significant growth over the past 5 years. In that common achievement, there was an important contribution of the local businesswomen, female civil servants and workers through implementing the emulation movements of "Working well, working creatively”, "Good at workplace, responsible for homework”

Hallmarks from business start-up

According to Truong Thanh Nga, Chairwoman of provincial Women's Union, over the past five years, provincial Women’s Unions at all levels focused on activities to support women in economic development. They also implemented sustainable poverty reduction by many creative ways and solutions; synchronously mobilized resources to support women in sustainable economic development with the view of "Investing resources to promote women's economic development, rising to get rich legitimately". The association focused on mobilizing resources to support women in creative business start-up, effectively implementing the project of "Supporting women in business start-up in the period of 2017-2025".

The "Women with creative business start-up" festivals and support forums have so far made 404 start-up ideas with capital, science and technology supported... Provincial Women’s Unions at all levels supported 1,405 enterprises owned or managed by women; mobilized and supported the establishment of 9 new cooperatives and 65 cooperative groups managed by women in the fields of producing, processing and trading agricultural products…

Many start-up models have been successful, helping members develop their home-based business. They include the Da Loc lotus-growing cooperative of Nguyen Thi Minh Tam in Ben Cat town, the duck-breeding cooperative of Phan Thi My Trang in Phu Giao district’s Tan Hiep commune... These models have created jobs for women in their leisure time as well as creating a start-up movement with new models in the locality.

Up to now, the total outstanding loans managed by provincial Women's Union at all levels have amounted to over VND1.5 trillion to support more than 32,000 women to borrow for production and business development (an increase of more than VND 1trillion compared to the previous tenure). Their resources have supported 2,128 poor women with VND19 billion; cooperated with relevant units to effectively carry out the 1956 Project, linking Le Thi Rieng vocational school under the Southern Central Women's Union and the province to provide vocational training for 2,739 women, introduce jobs to 1,617 women...
