Tan Uyen district’s Association of the Elderly: Over 50 collectives, individuals honored

Early January 8, Tan Uyen district’s Association of the Elderly held a conference to sum up its activities in 2013 and implement tasks for 2014.

The district’s Association of the Elderly and its affiliates focused on implementing 3 basic tasks and 2 main programs. Particularly, the association excelled at giving advice for the local authorities at all levels to realize a plan on developing the Fund of Caring for the Elderly; properly implemented policies on social welfare and brought full play into the role of the elderly, contributing to promoting its movements.

In 2013, the whole association admitted additional 999 members, bringing the total number of members to 12,723. So far, 100% communes, wards and townships has developed the Fund of Caring for the Elderly; there have been 13 out of 22 communes and townships with the Fund of Maintaining Grandparents and Parents.

The association also joined hands with the district’s Division of Health and Red Cross Society to provide free medical check-ups and medicine for 1,542 elderly people; excelled at congratulating 4,626 elderly people on their longevity; visited 1,179 elderly people hit by diseases, accidents…with a total expense of VND232mln.

In 2014, the association will further improve the operational effectiveness of its affiliates, contributing to enhancing the quality of the campaigns of “The entire society cares for the elderly, upholds their role” and “The elderly set bright examples”…

On this occasion, 8 individuals were awarded the mementoes of Vietnam Association of the Elderly. The district’s People’s Committee also awarded the certificates of merit to 21 collectives and 32 individuals for their excellent performance in activities of the association in 2013.
