In January 2023, the province's total retail sales of goods and services was estimated at VND24,964 billion, up 5.4% over the previous month and 14.1% over the same period last year. Having obtained the above results, the Provincial People's Committee directed branches and localities to closely follow the socio-economic development plans and programs of Provincial People's Committee as well as functions and tasks assigned to maintain and promote industrial production, develop commerce, stabilize the market right from the beginning of new year.

According to Phan Thi Khanh Duyen, Deputy Director of Provincial Department of Industry and Trade, during the Lunar New Year holidays, businesses proactively stocked a variety of goods to supply the market, ensure stable prices, no scarcity of goods, meeting the consumption needs of the provincial population. The province developed and implemented a plan to reserve Tet goods worth VND2,100 billion, with the following product groups: food, processed food, fresh food, petroleum, medicine. Enterprises also offered many attractive promotional programs with reasonable prices, in order to stimulate consumption demand and increase revenue.

At present, the supply of goods continues to meet consumer demand, commodity prices do not have large fluctuations, the market is relatively stable. The industry and trade branch continues to actively support product consumption for businesses through accessing and consuming through retail channels, such as: supermarkets, convenience stores, e-commerce... In addition, the branch coordinates with related units to enhance the campaign "Vietnamese people give priority to using Vietnamese goods", the program of bringing Vietnamese goods to rural areas, creating favorable conditions for people to have access to quality Vietnamese products at reasonable prices, helping businesses introduce and promote products to consumers.

Phan Thi Khanh Duyen affirmed that at present, consumers are very fond of Vietnamese products. In terms of quality, design, Vietnamese goods are increasingly improved, consumers appreciate this effort. However, in the current international integration context, in order to improve competitiveness with imported products, domestic enterprises need to improve internal quality, have plans to develop long-term, sustainable distribution and consumption channels.  In addition, the authorities will strengthen activities to support domestic enterprises to connect with and expand markets.

Increase strength for Vietnamese goods

Nguyen Van Loc - Member of Provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of Provincial Party Mass Mobilization Committee, Chairman of Provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Head of Provincial Steering Committee for the campaign "Vietnamese people give priority to using Vietnamese goods", assessed that programs of bringing and introducing local products into large supermarket systems are very important, not only support the expansion of distribution channels, but also help to affirm the prestige of product quality. 

In 2023, competent branches need to continue supporting businesses, production facilities, and OCOP products (one product per commune) in the province to improve production capacity, market competitiveness, expand distribution channels, connect local products to modern retail and supply chains, etc. In addition, to continue developing activities of promotion, information, consumer surveys of Vietnamese goods, improve the effectiveness of the campaign "Vietnamese people give priority to using Vietnamese products"... This is a great motivation for businesses to focus its investment resources on expanding production scale, constantly improve product and service quality, making many quality products to supply to the market.

Pham Thanh Dung, Director of Center for Investment Promotion, Trade and Industry Development (Provincial Department of Industry and Trade), said that in 2023 the center will continue to organize trade promotion programs, enhance trade connection between provinces and cities in the region, creating opportunities for local businesses to introduce and promote products. “The Center will continue to hold conferences to connect supply and demand, connect commerce and services; introduce the province's booths at fairs and exhibitions to help provincial enterprises promote products, expand markets, improve production and business efficiency. In addition, to focus on building a database to promote commerce, industry and market; develop a platform for fairs and exhibitions, creating favorable conditions for local businesses and production facilities to display and introduce products, seek information, and business partners in the digital environment," Dung said.

Many large supply-demand matching programs are held annually between Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces and cities, contributing to create direct connection for local businesses with distributors, consumers, and supermarket chains… to promote commerce and service development”.
