Viettel expected to import inventory iPhone

Update: 06-08-2010 | 00:00:00

VietNamNet Bridge – Apple stopped manufacturing iPhone 3GS 16G on June 24 but Viettel announced plans to import 3000 units to sell in Vietnam.

Viettel began distributing these products on August 2. It didn’t change the sales policy.

After Viettel announced plans to sell the second batch of iPhone 3GS, many people commented on online forums that Viettel imported inventory products because Apple stopped producing iPhone 3GS 16G on June 24, the time it began selling the iPhone 4.

A person using Quocquan as an online handle confirmed on an IT forum that the iPhones that Viettel imported were inventory products. He wrote that Apple currently manufactures only the iPhone 3GS 8GB and iPhone 4.

The owner of an iPhone repair shop on Kim Lien road, Hanoi, said that the 3000 iPhone 3GS imported by Viettel were definitely produced a long time ago. However, he said that inventory products don’t mean that they are poor quality.

A Viettel official told VNExpress online newspaper that Viettel didn’t import inventory products. “We signed an import contract a long time ago and we imported these products based on our business plan,” he said.

“This import is not related to Apple no longer manufacturing the iPhone 3GS 16GB, so the quality is ensured,” he added.

VinaPhone will also launch the sale of an additional 1000 iPhone 3GS 16GB early next week. The firm doesn’t plan to reduce the price or change mobile phone fees related to the iPhone.

This firm also said that the second import of iPhone 3GS is in its business plan.
