VSIP Trade Union promotes efficiency and role in ensuring occupational safety and hygiene

Occupational safety and health (OSH) always concerns Trade Union of Vietnam - Singapore Industrial Park (VSIP) and is implemented effectively. This job has been improving for employees to work with stress-free feeling, contributing to production development and increasing labor productivity at enterprises.

VSIP Trade Union signs a memorandum of understanding on good OSH performance with representatives of businesses.

Enterprises pay much attention 

At Liwayway Vietnam Joint Stock Company (VSIP 1), OSH work is always actively coordinated by the company's leadership and Executive Committee of the company’s grassroots Trade Union through regular dissemination of laws and regulations of the company on OSH with the motto "Safe for production, production must be safe". Pham Ngan Ha, Trade Union Chairman of Liwayway Vietnam Joint Stock Company, said that the company's leaders actively cooperate with Executive Committee of the Trade Union to organize training on OSH, such as training on technical measures, comply strictly with safety technical process, well organize personnel, set up plan for fire prevention and fighting, be ready to handle any situation...

Besides, the company equips and uses adequate personal protective equipment, of the right type and quality, suitable for workers. Executive Committee of the company’s grassroots Trade Union consolidated occupation safety and health staff. In particular, the company correctly implements OSH regimes and incentives in accordance with law; organizes periodical health check-ups for workers. Do information and communication on OSH through banners, slogans, panels to raise mployers and employees’ awareness of ensuring OSH.

According to leaders of VSIP Trade Union, OSH work has been supported enthusiastically by employers and employees with many practical activities. In which, grassroots trade unions actively joined hands with employers to implement many practical activities, such as: inspect, review, detect, and remedy unsafety risks; develop prevention plans at enterprises, construction sites, workshops, production groups... In addition, VSIP Trade Union strengthened communication activities, consulting, assisting businesses in organizing OSH training in face-to-face and online forms. In 2022 alone, nearly 600,000 turns of people were trained on OSH, of which nearly 10,000 workers without labor contracts. VSIP Trade Union also did more than 6,000 OSH propagation and training sessions with topics on electrical safety, machine safety in using chemicals for staff; organized occupational safety and health exams, excellent OSH workers contest, which attracted the participation of hundreds of workers.

Enhance OSH movement 

Apart from actively coordinating with enterprises to implement OSH activities, VSIP Trade Unions at all levels also organized visits and encouraged workers having occupational accidents and occupational diseases. Nguyen Van Duc, Chairman of VSIP Trade Union, said that activities of visiting, encouraging and giving gifts to unfortunate workers suffering from occupational accidents and diseases, remind employers to be deeply aware of the importance of OSH for the development of enterprises and happiness of employees. Therefore, employers are more responsible for taking care of employees' safety and health. Employees are also well aware of the consequences caused by occupational accidents and diseases, hence they gradually raise their awareness of abiding by laws, rules, and procedures to ensure occupational safety and health as performing their jobs.

Nguyen Van Duc added that, in this year's OSH Action Month with the theme "Strengthening the development of safe working procedures, measures, and improving working conditions, reducing stress in the workplace", VSIP Trade Union organized the launch and directed the affiliated trade unions to intensify the propagation of the 2023 Workers Month and OSH Action Month in the whole area; effectively combine and implement programs and benefits to enhance the care for the material and mental lives of employees. Accordingly, trade unions actively advise employers to organize specific and practical movements and activities, such as consulting, training, holding seminars on OSH; providing health examination, occupational disease examination for employees, enhancing information technology application in occupational safety and health management and training to create a good change in awareness and actions of employees...

Additionally, the trade unions continue to focus on propagating and mobilizing employees to strictly abide by the rules and procedures for operating machinery and equipment, measures for occupational safety and health, cultivating knowledge and skills for safe work; continue to consult with businesses to strengthen and consolidate the OSH staff network at enterprises, along with training to supplement professional knowledge. Trade unions also continue to maintain and develop the movement "Green - clean - beautiful, ensure OSH" at enterprises, especially the application of scientific and technical progress - labor protection to improve working conditions and environment to protect workers' health, improve labor productivity, and ensure safety at work.
