Industrial boom has promoted An Phu from a poor rural commune to a ward of bursting development in Thuan An Town. An overview of growing An Phu Ward “We have lived by rice crops and the nature onlybut now the place has become a hot pot for foreign and domestic enterprises. Industry does the magic,” said elderly Nguyen Van Hoan. Under general planning,VSIP 1 covers 170 hectares in An Phu Ward and VSIP 1 success has opened up plenty of economic opportunities for local people. Besides, the underoperating An Phu industrial hub contributed to the dramatically changing life of local people. All have been powered by State’s budget. By the end of Q1-2013, An Phu has attracted up to 647 domestic and foreign enterprises to join business activities. Looking back to the impressive development pathway of the locality, Mr. Quan Van Binh, Deputy Chair of People’s Committee and head of economic block said: “Without industry, An Phu stays a poor rural commune. For the time to come, we continue with development of industry, handicrafts, commerce and services.” An Phu Ward eyes growing population due to growth of largescale factories. By the end of 2011, the population surged to 57,502 people, 84% of which were immigrants. The labor force in An Phu Ward is huge thanks to 89.8% of the local population age above 18. The economy is growing fast and population surge has promptedlocal authority to invest to “Urban project of building up An Phu until 2020 and vision to 2030”.
