Be worthy of people’s arm force heroes

Commandoes in bare feets and covered with muds as disguise, they are secret force approaching targets within enemy’s lines and wait before attacks are launched. They contributed themselves to great victory and destroy targets without leaving tracks

Heroic legacy

On March, 19, 1967, at the base of Bu Dop District, Binh Phuoc Province, the C100 commandoes under Construction Field No. 7 was established by Mr. Le Anh Dao who is commander-in-chief of the company. By 1968, C100 is developed into Commando Battalion No. 28.

By middle of 1973, the battalion was guided to report achievements and apply for title of people’s arm force heroes; however, they failed to due to the ongoing war. By the end of 1974, the higher commanding units were divided into Division No. 7 and Regiment No. 6 under the 7th Army warzone, and entitled as Commando Battalion No. 20. As a result, the hero title was not awarded by then.

For over 8 years of operations and combats from 1967 to 1974, the Commando Battalion No. 28 has attended tens of compaigns in 1,645 battles which caused major damages to the US Army and the puppet government.

Achievements are 2 medals of people’s commandoes, 16 honor medals. 8 were awarded with first rank medal of achievement and 3 others were praised for heroic actions.

Victory after victory

After one week of establishment, on March 26, 1967, the battalion make its first battle attacking the Division No. 5 for the enemy based in Hon Quan, Binh Phuoc. The battle has eliminated 70 enemies and confiscated 4 105-caliber guns.

On June 26, 1967, the units secretly approached the enemies and eliminated 100 soldiers and destroyed 5 tanks and 4 155-mm guns. The achievements won them 2nd rank medal.

In the Mau Than uprising, the battalion has attacked Ben Cat subdivision of the enemies. In the night of January 30, 1968, commander Le Anh Dao and his deputy Le Cong Dien have commanded more than 5 days and nights battle and eliminated nearly 500 soldiers of puppet government and 25 US Army soldiers, destroying plenty of tanks and flak guns.

And in 5 days from May 1 to May 5, 1968, the battles attacking US Army in Di An base have profoundingly damaged the enemies and distract them from border lines in Ben Tranh, Dau Tieng where other units were preparing for uprising.

The most major battle of all was the attack to Dong Du airport (in Cu Chi) in the night of February 26, 1969, causing damages to blockhouses, 60 airplanes, 156 vehicles, 12 bunker guns. The first rank medal was awarded later on.

By major victories, on January 30, 2011, State’s President, Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet has signed Decision No. 163/QD-CTN to honor the Commando Battalion No. 28 with hero title.
