Based on the provincial forecast on labor demand, the province annually needs 30,000-40,000 laborers whilst the locality just meets 50% of the demand. Therefore, demand on labor in the province exceeds its supply, so about 50% of immigrant manpower from other provinces and cities will meet 80% of present requirement. In the period of 2010-2015, the province needs about 150,000-200,000 skilled laborers. Therefore, issue of high quality manpower is one of top goals for local common development.
Improvement of manpower quality
At present, Binh Duong has had 7 universities, 7 colleges, 12 intermediate schools with about 30,000 graduates per year, 12,000 of whom have intermediate knowledge and above. With the training, supply of manpower for businesses is a great challenge for local managers.

In the purpose of bounding for high quality manpower to meet local economic development, Binh Duong has made greater efforts to train a high quality workforce. The birth and development of some universities and colleges in the locality have showed a high determination. Thu Dau Mot University’s establishment is to be a hub of training-research and development of science and technology in the province. In the first academic year of 2009-2010, the university started its mission.
Lastly, Binh Duong College of Technology and Economics also officially became Binh Duong University of Technology and Economics. This is a new milestone helping the university improve training quality and develop manpower for locality and the Southeastern key economic zone.
The Eastern International University with a total investment capital of VND1,7tril invested by Becamex IDC will promise a great improvement of educational quality for the province. According to Prof. Ph.D Banh Tien Long, former minister of Education and Training, “the Eastern International University is suitable to the State’s educational socialization trend for the sake of economic acceleration”.
Not only manpower training for the locality in the coming time, local universities and colleges are in the race of improving manpower’s knowledge by linking post-university training.
Strategy for future
Issue of hi-quality human resources is always one of local top goals. Therefore, to meet a rising requirement of the present industry, Binh Duong must have a strategy for human resources training.
Nguyen Van Hiep, headmaster of Thu Dau Mot University affirmed “as a multi-field and level university, Thu Dau Mot University has a mission of training and fostering high quality manpower for the sake of local industrialization and modernization. Aside from building a high quality training program to cater for the country’s socio-economic development demand, the university keeps building distinctive training programs in combination with local demand on manpower. The university also strengthens its training cooperation and scientific research by signing agreements on manpower training and usage.
Le Hong Minh, chairman of Binh Duong University for Technology and Economics, said the university will train high quality manpower for the province and neighboring localities and counsel young laborers and graduates to accumulate soft skills.
Nguyen Van Phuc, director of Eastern Int’l University project, said that in early years, the university will train many trades and majors with preferential policies for graduates.
Le Thanh Cung, chairman of the local People’s Committee affirmed that enhancing quality of manpower, especially leadership and technical staff and workers is one of 4 breakthrough programs that the 9th provincial party congress set out. Expansion of production and business must combine with raising intellectual content and surging the number of manpower through training. He hoped that with a new scale, local universities and colleges will try their best to train high quality manpower, contributing to reach 60% of trained human resources in 2010, 70% in 2015 and 80% in 2020.
