Farmers in An Son help each other escape poverty

Farmers in An Son actively getting involved in making rural traffic works

As an agricultural locality, An Son commune in Thuan An district now has around 420 ha of farm land, including over 406 ha for growing perennial trees. An Son commune Farmers’ Society over time joined hands with the local agencies and organizations to make many support activities for farmers, helping them stabilize their lives.

 

Positive results

 

Thanks to the support fund for them,  many farmers herein rose up out of poverty and stabilized their lives. In early 2010, the whole commune only existed 148 poor households, down 233 households compared to 2006. The local support fund for farmers also amounted to more than VND18mln in 2009, increasing by VND13mln against 2005. It now provides VND29mln in loans for 11 households to develop homebased business.

 

The local Farmers’ Society has so far helped 203 households get more than VND2bln in loans from the Bank for Social Policies. Upon this, the local emulation movement of “good farmer in production and business” has attracted the participation of many farmers. The local Farmers’ Society also gave more support on animal feed, breeding animals, fertilizer…for farmers, helping them effectively use the loans.

 

In addition, the local Farmers’ Society actively cooperated with the district’s Agricultural Promotion Station, Plant Protection Station and Division for Economics to open 43 classes on transfer of sci-tech advancements for 2,935 members; assist members to learn experience in agricultural production via visits to the effective business models in and out of the province.

 

Development orientations for next year

 

Tong Thi Nga, chairwoman of An Son communal Farmers’ Society said: “…The local Farmers Society will actively develop the support fund for farmers; made good coordination with the Bank for Social Polices, credit organizations to provide loans for farmers in economic development; team up with relevant agencies to open training courses on sci-tech advancements, disseminate laws to farmers and give them legal support, contributing to reshaping the image of a new countryside”.
