Joining hands to help the disabled

Binh Duong has over time paid more attention to the spiritual and material lives of people with disabilities, helping them overcome their difficulties and confidently make their dream of living, working and contributing to society like other normal people.

Binh Duong is now home to around 10,000 disable people and more than  6,000 who are enjoying social allowances.

In 2012, provincial Sponsoring Association for Disable People, Orphans and Poor Patients has mobilized more than VND7.6bln in cash and kind from organizations and individuals across the province. The association has used the fund to implement 6 main programs, including providing cataract, cleft-lip and palate surgeries for 1,274 people; giving vocational training to 147 disable people; presenting 143 wheelchairs to disable people and 7 hearing-aids to deaf children; donating 274 bicycles and offering livelihood support in communes that are under new rural construction…

The association has also coordinated with provincial Child Support Fund to mobilize organizations and individuals to fund heart surgeries for 8 children with difficulties; built and upgraded 25 charity and unity houses; visited and presented gifts to people with difficulties and disabilities on Tet and great holidays…

Nguyen Thi Dien, Chairwoman of provincial Sponsoring Association for Disable People, Orphans and Poor Patients said that thanks to investment and creativeness, the association’s programs have always received more attention from the local authorities, enterprises and donors.

Province-based enterprises, namely Thanh Le Production-Import Export Co.Ltd. , Tan Hiep Phat Trading-Services Co.Ltd., Minh Long Porcelain Co.Ltd., …have also actively got involved in offering help to the disabled through provincial Sponsoring Association for Disable People, Orphans and Poor Patients.

Apartedly, the association and its affiliates have paid attention to vocational training for the disabled. More than 2,000 people with disabilities were given vocational training and introduced jobs. Thanks to the association’s support programs, hundreds of disable children annually went to school for community integration over the past time.

On the occasion of the International Day of the Disabled (Dec.3), units, enterprises and donors across the province have contributed VND2bln, including cash and gifts, to provincial Sponsoring Association for Disable People, Orphans and Poor Patients. Particularly, donors have raised money to build 14 charity houses for the disabled. The association will use the fund to implement vocational training projects for the disabled; give livelihood support for communes under new rural construction; visit and present gifts to the disabled on Tet and great holidays…
