Update: 20-10-2012 | 00:00:00

Historic circumstance changed role and position of women. However, prejudices on women remain existent in the society, especially rural areas. As such, the provincial Women Union has over the past 5 years disseminated and educated about the Law on Gender Equality. The union in cooperation with Center for Legal Assistance has helped cadres, members and women grasp knowledge on happy family building. The union has cooperated with some agencies and sectors of information and communications, culture-sport-tourism, youth union… to implement a project of “educating virtuous characters of Vietnamese women in the industrialization and modernization”…

In addition, the union in collaboration with the Committee for the Advancement of Women has trained basic contents of gender, the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW), law on gender equality, the Law on Domestic Violence Prevention and Control… The activity’s purpose is to implement women’s equality right on placement, education-training, improvement of operational quality of women on all areas.

Aside from advantages, taking the Law on Gender Equality go into life faces many difficulties. Promulgation and education of the Law on Gender Equality have lacked stability at rural areas.

Assessing the 5-year implementation of the law, Tran Thi Muoi Bay, vice chairwoman of the provincial Women Union, said the union has over years offered promulgations to sisters as well as facilitated women’s development.
