Practical activities conducted to care for working people

Since the beginning of the year, labor unions at all levels in the province have actively coordinated with employers and local authorities to organize activities to take care of the lives of workers as well as promote propaganda and mobilize workers to share and accompany businesses in overcoming difficulties.

Welfares for unionists

Mr. Ong Thuy Hoang Mai, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Labor Federation, said that in the first months of the year, the higher-level trade unions have coordinated with the Provincial Employment Service Center, the Investment Advisory Services Joint Stock Company, the Youth Support Center and the Provincial Youth and Young Workers Support Center in Binh Duong province to implement and organize job exchange platforms for workers and grassroots trade unions through Zalo groups and the higher-level trade union's fanpages, with more than 10,000 members. Party members and workers have been provided with new, stable employment and income.

Regarding the care of the welfare of union members, the provincial Trade Union continues to carry out procedures for issuing the "Vietnam Trade Union Savings Book" for children orphaned by COVID-19 who are the children of deceased workers; disbursing the support packages of the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor for union members and workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, reaching approximately 85 billion VND by the end of February 2024.

From the source of the Workers' Support Fund for workers with special difficult circumstances, trade unions at all levels have organized visits, gifts for 185 cases of workers suffering from serious illness and death from COVID-19, with a total amount of over 1.8 billion VND. Along with that, more than 60,000 union members and workers have access to and purchase products, necessities at a price of 0 VND, or preferential from the "Zero VND Market", "Welfare Booths for Union Members" organized by trade unions at all levels with a total amount of nearly 15 billion VND. The campaign to build and donate "Trade Union's Shelter" for workers is being implemented in many localities. The program "Trade Union's Meal" is being effectively implemented in hundreds of enterprises.

Regarding the spiritual life care for workers, Mr. Luu The Thuan, Head of the Propaganda Department - Women's Union of the provincial labor federation, said that this is a key task, which is well implemented by the trade unions at all levels. A typical example is the series of activities in the Workers' Month 2024. According to that, most grassroots unions in the area have recreational activities, entertainment, and take care of the lives of workers, especially pregnant female workers; support scholarships for workers' children, families in difficult circumstances. The provincial labor union also coordinates with unions at all levels to open many playgrounds for workers, including football, volleyball, badminton tournaments, fashion shows with the meaning of protecting the environment and healthy lifestyles. Especially, the "Workers' Singing Contest" in Binh Duong province has created a playground for all passionate workers who love singing and performing arts every week. Recently, the Vietnam Workers and Civil Servants Football Championship, regional qualifier 3, was successfully organized in Binh Duong.

To construct strong Trade Union

Along with taking care of and protecting the legitimate rights and interests of workers, building a strong trade union organization is diligently implemented by all levels of trade unions. This organization also advises the provincial People's Committee on implementing policies to support housing rental for workers and provides feedback on the draft decree regulating the minimum wage for workers under labor contracts, contributing opinions to amend the regulations on trade union allowances; monitor the implementation of policies and laws regarding female labor and ensure gender equality as stipulated in dozens of textile and garment enterprises.

One of the notable activities is the Legal Counseling Center of the Trade Union, which has provided advice and received recommendations from over 3,000 workers. Through that, they have wholeheartedly guided and resolved cases in accordance with the law. The center also organizes many sessions to disseminate labor laws and social insurance laws for workers in boarding houses; provides legal assistance for hundreds of cases; and receives authorization to file lawsuits for many cases.

To take good care of the lives of workers in the last months of the year, the leaders of the Provincial Labor Union stated that the units will continue to focus on activities such as meetings and dialogues between provincial leaders and workers. Directing the trade unions at all levels to implement plans for Tet care, salary, and bonuses; providing tickets for workers to return home for Tet; distributing gifts to workers in need who stay in Binh Duong for Tet; organizing Tet sum vay program, spring bus journey.

 

Caring for the development of trade union members

In the first 9 months of the year, 157 new grassroots trade unions were established, with 37,548 trade union members recruited, achieving a rate of 84.9%. Up to now, the province has a total of 4,108 grassroots trade unions with 818,164 trade union members. Recently, the work of organizing dialogues in the workplace has achieved high results with dialogues conducted at 1,693 enterprises; 31 enterprises signed their first labor agreements; 135 grassroots trade unions proposed improving the quality of meals according to regulations.
