Province marks 61st anniversary of Vietnam Young Volunteers Day

Early July 15, provincial Youth Union Standing Committee, in collaboration with provincial Association of Former Young Volunteers and provincial Squad of Young Volunteers, held a get-together to mark the 61st anniversary of Vietnam Young Volunteers Day (July 15, 1950-July 15, 2011) at provincial Youth Volunteer Plantation in Phu Giao district’s An Thai commune.

At the get-together, participants reviewed the tradition of the local young volunteer force and heard the report on the activities of provincial Association of Former Young Volunteers over the past time. Reportedly, provincial Association of Former Young Volunteers paid more attention to the lives of members by many significant activities, including mobilizing organizations, individuals to donate hundreds of gifts and build 20 houses of compassion worth VND400mln for members; joining hands with relevant agencies to solve the State’s policies for 111 cases (comprising of 19 invalids and 37 wounded soldiers).

There were 14 individuals and 8 collectives honored by provincial People’s Committee and the Vietnam Association of Former Young Volunteers. Provincial Association of Former Young Volunteers was also awarded the banner for the best unit for four consecutive years from 2007 to 2010.

Participants also enjoyed a film show on outstanding former young volunteers in following Uncle Ho’s teachings and the activities of provincial Squad of Young Volunteers and had an exchange between two generations of the local young volunteers.

Speaking at the get-together, Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh, deputy head of provincial Republic Relations Committee’s Standing Board wished the province’s former young volunteers good health; highly spoke of the contributions made by former young volunteer force of Vietnam in general and the province in particularly during the two resistance wars against the French and US invaders as well as during the current national construction and defence cause and hoped that they would further contribute to successfully realizing the local targets in socio-economic development and always set bright examples for young people to study and follow.

At the get-together, participants also took part in planting souvenir trees at the Youth Volunteer Plantation…
