Province reaches stable socio-economic development

Provincial People’s Committee yesterday convened its 102nd session to approve the local draft report on socio-economic development, national defence-security in the first half of 2016 and devise orientations, tasks for the last six months of the year.

Economic growth at high level

According to a report by provincial People’s Committee, the province’s GDP growth rate in the first half of 2016 was estimated at 7.74%. Of that figure, industrial manufacture-construction grew by 8.35%; services by 7.51%; agro-forestry and fisheries by 3.91%. The province’s index of industrial production (IIP) surged 8.37%.  The province’s total retail sales of commodities and services over the past six months reached more than VND70trillion, up 21.3% against the corresponding period last year. Also during the period, the province’s export turnover was estimated at more than US$10.6billion, up 16.5% against last year’s same period while import value was US$8.7billion, up 16.7% over last year’s same period.

Despite difficulties, the province’s total production value of agro-forestry and fisheries was estimated at VND5.4trillion, up 3.9% compared to last year’s same period. The local animal husbandry sector continued going up while there were a lot of positive changes in the national target program on new-style rural construction.

Over the past six months, the province’s total investment capital for social development reached more than VND26trillion, up 10.5% against last year’s same period. Around VND1.3trillion was also spent on the local basic construction. Regarding investment attraction, as of June 10, the province absorbed more than VND18trillion in domestic capital and nearly US$1.1billion in FDI capital.

Efforts to finish

Over the past six months, most of the province’s main targets on economic development obtained high growth in comparison with last year’s same period. The province’s socio-economic infrastructure continued being built in a synchronous way, contributing to improving the local investment climate and investment attraction. The province also well realized State budget management. But, the local socio-economic development during the period still faced shortcomings for change.

To fulfill 2016’s targets, provincial People’s Committee has put forward measures for the last 6 months of the year. Accordingly, provincial People’s Committee has asked for sectors and authorities at all levels to further carry out the Government’s Resolution No.01/NQ-CP dated January 1, 2016 on tasks, solutions guiding the realization of the socio-economic development plan and State budget estimate in 2016; improve the local investment climate, helping enterprises enhance their competitive capacity; further organize dialogues with industries’ associations to opportunely deal with enterprises’ difficulties, queries for better development…They also need to devise their plans on stockpiling goods for Tet, especially essential ones under the province’s stabilization price program; take measures to promote exports; boost trade promotion activities; focus on handling queries regarding investment procedures to well make capital disbursement, hastening the progress of compensation, site clearance for projects; especially mobilize all resources for the development of Binh Duong’s new areas in association with upgrading TDM, Thuan An and Di An rural areas.

Concluding the session, Tran Thanh Liem, Vice-Secretary of provincial Party Committee cum Chairman of provincial People’s Committee required sectors, departments and the People’s Committee at all levels of the province to put focus on drastically taking socio-economic development measures for the rest of the year as well as fulfilling the local targets on urban development. They need to concentrate on completing the My Phuoc-Tan Van expressway, start construction of the expanded DT743 street, hasten the progress of construction of irrigation projects…

It is known that the province also attached special importance to socio-cultural activities and achieved positive results over the past six months. Particularly, the province’s sector of healthcare provided medical check-ups and inpatient treatment for around 2.3 million and nearly 110,000 patients or 63.2% and 75% of the year’s plans, respectively. The quality of education-training at all levels of the province was also improved. Cultural-sports activities continued being implemented in a synchronous way at locals’ demand for entertainment.

The whole province spent nearly VND508billion on taking care of revolutionary contributors and needy people; awarded the “heroic Vietnamese mother” title to 226 mothers; generated jobs for 30,550 laborers; received and solved 46,311 documents enjoying social insurance policies; granted 27,638 health insurance cards to needy people…
