Provincial Red Cross Society donates gifts to poor ethnic minority people in Gia Lai

*Di An town’s Red Cross Society offers help to over 13,500 needy people

Provincial Red Cross Society and its Volunteers’ Club has just organized a delegation to visit and present gifts to poor ethnic minority people in Krong Pa district’s Chu Ngoc commune in the Central Highlands province of Gia Lai.

At the visiting place, the delegation donated 200 gifts worth VND700,000 each, including rice, instant noodle, sugar, clothes…and cash to poor ethnic minority people. The donation was funded by provincial Red Cross Society, Buddhist followers in Di An town-based Chau Thoi mountain and donors at An Lac market in HCM city’s Binh Tan district.

It is known that Binh Duong province’s Red Cross Society has been twinned with Gia Lai province’s Red Cross Society since 2006. Yearly, Binh Duong province’s Red Cross Society has organized two or three delegations to visit and present gifts to poor ethnic minority people in the remote and poor areas of Gia Lai province’s three communes of Krong Pa, Chu Se and Ia Pa.

*Di An town’s Red Cross Society has just held a conference to partially sum up the five-year implementation of the campaign “Each organization, each individual should stick to an humanitarian address” from 2008 to 2013 and the ten-year implementation of the model “First-aid motorbikes” and “First-aid points” from 2003 to 2013.

Under the campaign “Each organization, each individual should stick to an humanitarian address”, Di An town’s Red Cross Society mobilized organizations and individuals to offer help to more than 13,500 needy people with a total fund of nearly VND4.6bln over the past five years. The society also organized many other significant activities for the poor, including building houses of compassion for them, providing them with charity meals, rice…

Di An town has so far developed 7 first-aid motorbike squads with 147 members and 70 first-aid points. Since being established, they have offered first aid to more than 2,000 cases and then hospitalized them while providing on-site first aid for hundreds of other cases.
