Update: 19-01-2015 | 10:59:47

In 2014, provincial Women’s Union obtained many achievements, especially in the tasks of supporting women to build up happy and sustainable families, helping them in economic development, sustainable poverty reduction…, but there were still shortcomings for change. Hence, provincial Women’s Union will put forward measures to improve the quality of its movements in 2015.

Women helping each other in poverty reduction

One of key tasks done by provincial Women’s Union over the past time was to improve the quality of its affiliates, train and enhance grassroots staff’s qualification while absorbing involvement of more women. As of now, the whole province has had a total of nearly 151,500 members of the local Women’s Unions at all levels or 61.4% of total and there are 69.31% of families having members of the local Women’s Unions at all levels. Although being modest, they are “real” figures.

Provincial Women’s Union has also put focus on helping members reduce poverty. According to statistics, the whole province had a total of 4,185 poor households, including 2,177 female-headed households (or 52% of total) in early 2014. Upon this, provincial Women’s Union and its affiliates made plans on helping women escape poverty in association with the campaign of “building up families with 5 no-s and 3 clean-s”.

The campaign of “Women helping each other in economic development” was also promoted via many forms. Accordingly, provincial Women’s Union and its affiliates mobilized 9,913 well-off women to provide 8,647 needy ones with nearly VND17.5bln in loan to develop homebased business. They also maintained the model of “charity rice jar” and mobilized members to save money in order to assist the poor…In 2014, the “Saving day for Poor Women” campaign mobilized nearly VND2.9bln from organizations, individuals or 266% of the yearly plan. Provincial Women’s Union and its affiliates also helped nearly 32,500 members get more than VND85bln in loan from the Bank for Social Policies…

Attracting more members

In addition to achievements done, provincial Women’s Union and its affiliates have faced shortcomings for change. Many women have not cared for participating in the organization yet. Some movements have been unequally implemented among localities, units. The operational quality of the affiliates has not been high…

Nguyen Thi Thu Hong, Chairwoman of provincial Women’s Union said: “Provincial Women’s Unions at all levels need to analyse and seek reasons leading to the above shortcomings for more proper improvement. Cadres of provincial Women’s Unions at all levels also have to grasp women’s feeling and thought for timely help…”.

Accordingly, provincial Women’s Union will put focus on improving the quality of its affiliates and attract more members. Provincial Women’s Union and its affiliates also need to well realize the emulation movement of “Women actively study, creatively work and build happy families” with a focus being the campaign of “Building families with 5 no-s and 3 clean-s” and their key tasks to be able to fulfill targets of the Resolution of the Congress of provincial Women’s Unions at all levels for the 2011-2016 tenure.
