Provincial Labor Union just kicked off movement of “heartly nets for Spratly and Paracel Islands” for its specialized staffs and belonging units. That every leader, entrepreneur, individual, worker, and student were donating a bit of their income was so moving. By SMS and cash, the movement was so active. Previously on July 11, VSIP Labor Union promoted nearly 100 personnels to send SMS to support the movement. Up to date, three labor union grassroots have donated to the movement. Through shift allocating meetings, the grassroots have also mobilized to call upon people to donate for fishermen in Spratly and Paracel Islands.

For years, Vietnamese fishermen in Spratly and Paracel Islands have been facing not only natural threat but also sabotage of foreign fishing ships. “I used to be a fisher living in coastal areas, thus, I sympothize for the hardship and danger that they are facing. By the movement, I believed that our donation and calls for donation may help,” said Huynh Thi Kim Loan, a worker to ONAMBA Vietnam Co. Ltd. “Our coastal line is over 3,200 km long fronting our East Sea. The potentials of fishing, oil, and marine economy are great. About 83% of our population are living in costal areas depending on offshore fishing. In the history, it was proved that Spratly and Paracel Islands belong to Vietnam territory. By CNOC 1982, that fact was confirmed; however, the territory ownership disputes have been so threatening. Thus, fishers in those areas are vunerable to many risks,” asserted Chairman Le Thanh Nhon of Provincial Labor Union. Reported by Van Son – Translated by Vi Bao
