Being proud of tradition

In 1949 and 1950, the struggling movement of Vietnamese students loomed large across the country. With patriotism and courage, Vietnamese students demonstrated against foreign aggression for the national freedom and independence…

On January 9, 1950, nearly 10,000 students took part in a major protest in Saigon, demanding the release of those arrested by French colonialism. And Tran Van On, an outstanding youth died in the struggle. His sacrifice greatly affected the later struggling movement of people in Saigon.

In February 1950, the Congress of Vietnam Youth Union in Viet Bac decided to select January 9 as the traditional day of Vietnamese students. As usual, every year when January 9 approaches, students at universities, colleges and junior colleges across the country are eager to set achievements in celebration of the traditional day.

Having no reservations in rushing to difficulties

Following the heroic tradition of previous generations, young people in the province have actively got involved in voluntary activities for the sake of the community via the campaigns of “Green Sunday”, “Voluntary Saturday”, “Green-clean and beautiful school gate”…The annual summer youth volunteer campaign is the pinnacle of voluntary activities done by the local youth.

In 2014, more than 7,000 students in the province took part in the summer youth volunteer campaign with such significant programs as “Giving strength in exam season”, “Volunteer towards national sea and islands”, “Joining hands in new rural construction”…Under the “Giving strength in exam season” program, 170 students from 4 universities and colleges in the province supported over 8,000 candidates and their parents; introduced 1,200 free accommodations to them; gave them 500 free bus tickets, 4,000 handbooks, 3,000 enrollment leaflets and 9,000 free meals with a total expense of more than VND80mln.

The local youth also took part in charity classes, presented computers to schools, awarded scholarships to pupils with extremely difficult circumstances…The Youth Union of Thu Dau Mot University was a typical example for the above things. The Youth Union set up 4 youth volunteer teams and they got involved in voluntary activities in Ben Cat town and Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan and Tay Ninh provinces. Particularly, they organized summer classes for 1,200 children, presented 5 computers worth VND30mln…

Meanwhile, students of Vietnam-Singapore Vocational College carried out a work named “Lighting up rural roads” with more than 200 light bulbs installed on rural roads of more than 1,000 meters in Suoi Da commune and Duong Minh Chau township in Tay Ninh province with a total expense of VND15mln…Binh Duong University also established 2 youth volunteer teams in Dong Thap province’s Gao Giong district. Accordingly, the school’s students realized 2 in-field irrigation works, dredged 1,000 meters of canals, upgraded houses for locals…

With their ardour and voluntary heart, Binh Duong’s students have actually realized the spirit of “Binh Duong’s students: Missing them when leaving and loving them when staying”…

It is known that provincial Students Association organizes a ceremony to mark the 65th anniversary of Vietnamese Students’ Day tonight. The ceremony takes place with many significant programs, including honoring 2 students winning the January Star award of the Youth Union’s Central Committee; awarding the certificates of merit of provincial People’s Committee to 5 students with 5 good points; awarding 14 “DTL-Lighting up the dream of Binh Duong’s students” scholarships to outstanding students; organizing art performances…
