Vietnam’s honey exports to EU

Update: 08-08-2013 | 00:00:00

Vietnam has been allowed to export honey to the EU market, according to the European Market Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.

It said the European Union (EU) on July 31 accepted the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD)’s plan for residue control on Vietnamese honey for export.

MARD had sent its plan along with samples of chemical residue in honey products to the European Commission (EC) for consideration more than four months ago.

After thorough examination, EC experts recently concluded that the plan meets strict requirements of the EC to protect people’s health.

Following this conclusion, the EU market will again import honey from Vietnam under its revised decision No.2011/163/EU.

In recent years, Vietnam has exported around 30,000 tonnes of honey, with prices hovering around US$2,400/tonne.
