Vietnamese workers in Middle East remain safe

Update: 17-03-2011 | 00:00:00

Many Vietnamese guest workers are worried about political instability in some Middle East countries.

To protect Vietnamese labourers in the Middle East, the Overseas Labour Management Department under the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Labour Affairs (MoLISA) urged businesses to get updated information on conditions of Vietnamese workers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain and Kuwait. The Department also asked its representatives in these countries to prepare reports on Vietnamese labourers to the Vietnamese embassies in resident countries.

Vietnamese workers in Middle East nations are advised not to go to places which have protests or violence.

According to Deputy Head of the Overseas Labour Management Department, Dao Cong Hai, nearly 10,000 Vietnamese labourers are working in UAE and about 1,100 others are working in Bahrain where anti-government protests are taking place like in Libya. There are more than 2,000 Vietnamese workers in Qatar and over 40 on Oman. At present, all Vietnamese workers in the Middle East remain safe, he says.
