To confirm itself as a core urban area

On August 28, People's Committee of Bau Bang district solemnly held a ceremony to announce Resolution No. 535/NQ-UBTVQH14 dated 11 July 2018 of National Assembly Standing Committee on the establishment of Lai Uyen town under Bau Bang district. Lai Uyen Town was established on the total area of ​​Lai Uyen commune. Before this event, people living in this land were happy, because recent years, Lai Uyen has developed in many aspects; the pace of urbanization was also high. Lai Uyen town serves as a political, economic, cultural and social center of Bau Bang district, and will stimulate Bau Bang district’s growth.

As the core urban area of Bau Bang district, Lai Uyen has developed strongly over time. Lai Uyen today has many changes in appearance. Nguyen Van An, former Secretary of Lai Uyen commune, said that when Bau Bang had been established, Lai Uyen became urban-industrial center of ​​Bau Bang district. The development of Lai Uyen town has given an impetus to Bau Bang.

Currently, in the economic structure of Lai Uyen, industry accounts for 54%. The whole town now has more than 100 enterprises with both domestic and foreign investment capital and operating stably, contributing to local budgets, creating jobs for local laborers and attracting workers from other localities. Commercial - service sector accounts for 26%; agriculture 20%. The town is restructuring the economy to increase the proportion of industry, trade and services and gradually reduce agricultural proportion. The town has no poor households according to central standards; non-agricultural labor rate is over 70%. In particular, Lai Uyen has convenient transportation system such as Highway 13 stretching nearly 19km through the commune to My Phuoc - Tan Van, Bau Bang - Bo La road and connecting with the center of TDM city, Ho Chi Minh City as well as Binh Phuoc province. At present, Lai Uyen is constructing administrative works and public works of urban nature and scale, such as hospital, high schools, vocational schools, culture sports center...

Turning towards class-4 urban criteria

Pham Van Thang, Deputy Party Secretary and People's Committee Chairman of Lai Uyen town, said that economic infrastructure of the commune was to create favorable conditions for people to develop their economy and stabilize their lives. Currently, the whole town has 88 traffic routes with a total length of over 167 km. By the year 2017, Lai Uyen satisfied 19/19 criteria and was recognized for the completion of national target program on new rural construction. In the coming time, Lai Uyen town will continue to learn by experience in leadership, direction and administration to further develop the new rural development program; arouse the inner strength of the entire people; construct synchronous economic and social infrastructure; tie economic development to cultural identity preservation, environmental protection.

Nguyen Huu Chi, Secretary of Bau Bang District Party Committee, affirmed that more than 4 years after Bau Bang district’s establishment, with efforts of the entire political system, plus geographical advantages, socio-economic potential, Lai Uyen was recognized as class-5 urban area on June 15, 2017; and was recognized as the town of Bau Bang district by Resolution No. 535 of National Assembly Standing Committee on July 11, 2018.

Lai Uyen town's Party Committee and government promptly stabilized its organizational structure in a neat and effective way, paid special attention to professional training and fostering for Party cadres and civil servants to meet requirements and fulfill tasks in the new period. The town concentrated on socio-economic development, stabilizing political security, social security and order; utilizing potential and advantages to become the center of Bau Bang district; at the same time, strive to meet class-4 urban criteria by 2020.

Being recognized as the town is the effort of Bau Bang district whole Party, people in recent years. This will be an important milestone and the foundation for the Party, people of Bau Bang district and Lai Uyen township to keep well performing socio-economic development tasks, so that Lai Uyen is worthy of its role of political, economic, cultural and social center of Bau Bang district.
