Update: 25-04-2017 | 09:13:22

President Tran Dai Quang has underscored the urgency of environmental protection, saying that Vietnam will never exchange the environment for anything at any cost.

The State leader made the remark at an April 24 reception for Singapore’s Minister for the Environment and Water Resources Masagos Zulkifli in Hanoi.

He told his guest that Vietnam’s socio-economic aims will move toward sustainable development with priorities given to environmental protection.

Vietnam desires to learn from Singapore’s experience in green development and water resource management, Quang said, adding that the country always regards Singapore as a strategic partner.

Quang also thanked Singapore for sharing its knowledge in national governance, urban management, economic development and personnel training.

Vietnam always sticks importance to and spares no efforts to reinforce its strategic partnership with Singapore, Quang said, noting that the minister’s visit will open up new cooperation prospects between the two nations in the area of natural resources and environment.

He urged the two countries to consider the implementation of new collaboration models such as hi-tech and innovative technology areasand food processing centres in major localities throughout Vietnam

Minister Zulkifli for his part said that Vietnam has become an attractive destination for foreign investors and tourists, including those from Singapore.

He also noted that environmental pollution in one country can affect its neighbors and the world as a whole.

He suggested that Vietnam and ASEAN countries need to show the bloc’s clear stance in the field at the UN conference in Nairobi, Kenya in late 2017.

The viewpoints of ASEAN will be discussed at the 14th ASEAN Environmental Ministers’ Meeting in Brunei in September this year.
