Summer youth volunteer campaign 2018 and hallmarks

Reportedly, Youth Union members across the province implemented a lot of significant works in and out of the province during the summer youth volunteer campaign 2018, leaving good impressions on people.

Nguyen Tan Dat, Vice-Secretary of provincial Youth Union, Chairman of provincial Youth Federation, Head of provincial Steering Board of the summer youth volunteer campaign 2018 said that this year’s campaign focused on dealing with issues relating to social welfare, new rural construction, environmental protection, especially “paying debt of gratitude” activities…with 5,785 participants and 205 volunteer squads implemented.

Particularly, during the three-month campaign, the local youths got involved in such significant activities as offering help to more than 11,000 candidates of the 2018 national high-school graduation examination at 12 examination points in the province, supporting 750 candidates with difficult circumstances and their relatives with a total cost of VND200million; building and upgrading 58 km of rural roads worth more than VND2billion; organizing 9 classes on sci-tech transfer for 500 Youth Union members; carrying out 152 green Sundays with the participation of 8,840 Youth Union members; constructing and upgrading 11 playgrounds for children; awarding scholarships to 11,996 children with a total value of nearly VND2billion; providing free medical check-ups and medicine for 6,150 people with a total cost of more than VND1.6billion; organizing voluntary blood donation activities with 1,720 units of blood collected; visiting and presenting gifts worth VND680million to 81 heroic Vietnamese mothers, 560 policy beneficiary families…

From June to August, 2018, 55 youth works were implemented with a total value of more than VND1.5billion. They concentrated on upgrading rural roads; constructing cultural works, recreational points; building charity, gratitude houses, “dream” rooms. Some typical works included a playground for children at Hai Au preschool in Binh Thuan province’s Phu Quy island district; a playground for children at the People’s Committee of Tam Giang commune in Ca Mau province’s Nam Can district; a “lighting rural road” work of 2km with 30 lights installed in Dau Tieng district’s Minh Hoa commune…Provincial Youth Federation carried out 2 works named “Compassionate journey for the community’s healthy”  in Dau Tieng district’s Minh Hoa commune and Dak Nong province’s Bon U1 district…

In general, this year’s summer youth volunteer campaign reached in-depth development, absorbing the participation of numerous Youth Union officials, members, pupils and students. The campaign helped the local youths uphold their volunteer role in socio-economic development while creating a useful environment for Youth Union members to train, make contributions to the society and mature. However, it still faced shortcomings for change.
