Wastewater is also as a resource

Update: 22-03-2017 | 11:27:55

This year’s World Water Day under the theme of “Wastewater” plus a campaign “Why is wastewater?” aim to call for the community to save water, reuse wastewater and consider wastewater as a resource.

Water still being wasted

In response to this year’s World Water Day, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has just required the People’s Committees of provinces and cities under the central control to instruct the Departments of Natural Resources and Environment to coordinate with relevant units to set plans, organize meetings and appropriate activities in response to the World Water Day. Particularly, they need to hold seminars, talk shows and exhibitions on water resources; mobilize people to take part in protecting water resources; delivery leaflets and organize film shows on water resources on the mass media…

This is a wastewater treatment plant under the South Binh Duong water environment improvement project

Nguyen Hong Nguyen, Deputy Director of provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment said that health and growth of a country depend on how to get access to clean water and environmental hygiene. Currently, giving priority to increasing investment expenditure for improving control over wastewater may help minimize environmental pollution and obtain great benefit.

Attaching special importance to wastewater resources

Mr.Nguyen affirmed that management and improvement on wastewater resources are a very important task of the environmental sector. Upon this, Binh Duong has boosted the installation of automobile wastewater surveillance systems at industrial parks. The World Bank has also just supported US$92million for the Di An wastewater treatment and collection plant with the daily capacity of 20,000 cubic meters. The project is implemented in five wards of Di An town. After being completed, it will collect rainwater in Binh An ward and carry out wastewater drainage in 4 wards, including  Di An, Tan Dong Hiep, Dong Hoa and An Binh. There will be more than 40,000 people enjoying benefit from the project.

Prior to that, in 2013, Binh Duong put the TDM wastewater treatment plant for the phase 1 under the South Binh Duong water environment improvement project into use with a total investment capital of nearly VND2trillion, including nearly 1.6trillion from Japan’s ODA capital. The phase 2 of the project was implemented in early 2005 in Thuan An town with the daily capacity of 17,000 cubic meters. The work has a total investment capital of VND2.3trillion.

According to Mr.Nguyen, the efforts by authorities at all levels in improving the quality of wastewater resources will be unsuccessful if there is no involvement from people. The province’s environmental sector hopes that strengthening communications activities will raise public awareness of right treatment for wastewater resources. This will help ensure health for people and effectively tap waterwater resources…
