7th congress of provincial Red Cross Society opens

The 7^th congress of provincial Red Cross Society for the 2016-2021 tenure officially opened at provincial Political School on the morning of November 30.

Attending the event were Doan Van Thai, Vice-President, General Secretary of Vietnam Red Cross Society; Tran Van Nam, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of provincial Party Committee, Head of provincial NA delegation; Pham Van Canh, Permanent Vice-Secretary of provincial Party Committee, Chairman of provincial People’s Council; Nguyen Thanh Liem, member of provincial Party Standing Committee, Head of provincial Party Committee’s Commission for Public Relations, Chairman of provincial Fatherland Front Committee; Dang Minh Hung, Vice-Chairman of provincial People’s Committee; former leaders of the province over periods; representatives of sectors, departments together with more than 156,000 members across the province.

In the last tenure, provincial Red Cross Society reached and surpassed the set targets with the annual increase in the number of members and volunteers…The whole society has so far had a total of 156,070 members and 4,599 volunteers. Through social charity activities, provincial Red Cross Societies at all levels offered help to approximately 5 million people with more than VND400million, up 27.28% compared to the previous tenure. All contributed to well realizing the local social welfare policies…

In the 2016-2021 tenure, provincial Red Cross Society will further build up a stronger organization, improve its operational contents and forms, enhance the effectiveness of movements, campaigns; strive to get a 10% and 15% increase in the number of members and volunteers, respectively; mobilize organizations and individuals to support 6,000 humanitarian addresses; reach 1% of the province’s total population and above to take part in the volunteer blood donation campaign; provide free medical check-ups and medicine for at least 24,000 people every year…

The congress also elected a new executive board of provincial Red Cross Society for the 2016-2021 tenure with 33 members. Nguyen Thi Le Trinh was nominated as Chairwoman of the society. Besides, the congress sorted out a delegation with 8 members to attend the upcoming National Congress of Vietnam Red Cross Society. Tran Van Nam, member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of provincial Party Committee, Head of provincial NA delegation was also elected as Honorary Chairman of the society for the 2016-2021 tenure.

Addressing the congress, Mr.Hung praised provincial Red Cross Society for its achievements over the past time while suggesting the society and its branches to seriously realize the Directive No.43/CT-TW of the Secretariat of the 10^th Party Central Committee on “Improving the Party’s leadership to Vietnam Red Cross Society”, be proactive to advise the local authorities at all levels on humanitarian task, widely and deeply disseminate the significance of the “Each organization, individual should stick to an humanitarian address” campaign; improve cadres’ ability and morality; speed up propaganda to mobilize organizations and individuals to get involved in social charity activities…
