A 5 year process of volunteer

In 2007, students of Binh Duong University and Dong Thap province’s Cao Lanh district Youth Union jointly opened a volunteer summer campaign. After 5 years, they have created significant results, contributing to spur local socio-economic development. 

A significant summer

At Cao Lanh district’s communes of Binh Thanh, My Long, Gao Giong…, Binh Duong students helped local farmers water vegetables, clean grass, spray pesticides and so on. Image of farmers and students in volunteer green shirts made up a lively ambience for the countryside.

Nguyen Ngoc Son, a volunteer student, shared “I feel very proud of being put on volunteer green shirts”. Volunteer spirit and pride of students make up a good impression on local farmers.

Aside from helping local farmers, volunteer students positively reviewed lessons and created healthy playgrounds for local children.

Dao Mai Ngan, a volunteer student, said “Journeys to countryside areas help me sympathize with farmers’ difficult life”.

5 years of volunteer

After 5 years of implementing volunteer activities, nearly 500 students have joined in volunteer campaigns across communes of Binh Thanh, My Long, Phuong Thinh, Tan Nghia, Ba Sao and Gao Giong. The volunteer activities have helped spur local socio-economic development.

Over the past 5 years, the two units planted 20,000 green trees, cleaned over 80km of roads, opened 96 review classes, built 10 charity houses, granted 50 scholarships for poor people and children.

Vo Chi Huu, secretary of Cao Lanh district Youth Union, said “the cooperation between the 2 units is a pride for our locality. Significant works and activities implemented by students have helped spur local socio-economic development”.

Joining in volunteer campaigns has helped students learn many things from life and practice their awareness for the community.
