Update: 06-06-2016 | 13:59:15

Diverse activities are taking place nationwide to respond to World Environment Day, June 5.

The Hanoi People’s Committee held a ceremony to launch activities to respond to this occasion. 3,000 pine trees were planted in Da Lat city, Lam Dong province on World Environment Day.

More than 300 young people attended a ceremony to mark the event and launch the Week of Vietnam’s sea and islands.

Ninh Thuan province’s People’s Committee held a meeting and a campaign to clean the beach.

2016 World Environment Day was held to encourage the people to be friendlier with the environment. It also aims to call for the community’s effort to prevent illegal wildlife trafficking which has posed risks for biodiversity and lives of many species in the world.

In Ho Chi Minh city, more than 300 students drew paintings and cycled along Truong Sa and Hoang Sa roads to communicate environmental protection.

Nguyen Thi Bich Thao from district 3, Ho Chi Minh city said,“We took part in the launching ceremony to raise people’s awareness of environmental protection. I often ask my family and friends to use less plastic bags and replace with recycled ones to protect the environment."

Vietnam has responded to World Environment Day as an annual activity since 1982, said Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha, adding that this year, the ministry launches a broad array of responding activities  that call for joint efforts to address urgent environmental issues in localities.
