Ben Cat town Youth Union helps young persons establishing themselves

According to Ben Cat town Youth Union’s Deputy Secretary cum Youth Confederation’s President Nguyen Ngoc Thoai, vocational training for youth members in remote areas has been paid a lot attention. In recent years, majority rural youth members have had stable jobs, increased income owing to short-term vocational training opened by municipal Youth Union in collaboration with other sectors, organizations.

After graduating from university, Le Huu Duc (born in 1984) living now in An Dien commune, Ben Cat town worked as a secretary of An Dien commune Party Committee. Salary of a civil servant was just enough to cover essential needs, thus he cherished a desire to set up a home-based business to improve his family’s living standard.

Youth members in Chanh Phu Hoa ward were learning how to take care of orchid.

In 2007, An Dien commune Youth Union cooperated with Farmers Association to open a vocational training of orchids growing for youth members. He decided to register for the course. After 3 months, he had knowledge of growing and taking care of orchids, then embarked on his own business. Thanks to a start-up capital of VND20 million borrowed from his family and friends, he bought 600 orchids and tools.

Initially, he faced many difficulties due to lack of experiences, but he learned from experienced gardeners and applied new techniques, then success came. Now he has over 1,000 orchid trees bringing a monthly income of more than VND8 million. Duc said: “It was only a short vocational training but bringing a lot of useful knowledge to me and other young ones. Since then, I accessed, applied knowledge into my business and achieved success”.

Due to these vocational training courses opened by municipal Youth Union, not only Duc but also many young persons in Ben Cat town have been able to develop their own home-based businesses, increase their salary at companies. For example, forklift driver training classes are held regularly in An Dien commune, most learners are usually forklift drivers having no certificates. After the course, learners were certified and can increase salary.

An Dien commune Youth Union’s Deputy Secretary Nguyen Minh Man said: “The commune opens annually 3-4 training classes, sometimes 5 courses. In 2014, we cooperated with municipal Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Bureau and provincial Vocational Training junior college to open 3 forklift driver training classes for 69 demobilized soldiers, converted objects, youth members with difficult circumstances, local drivers…”

According to Ben Cat town Youth Union’s Deputy Secretary cum Youth Confederation’s President Nguyen Ngoc Thoai, vocational training for youth members in remote areas has been paid a lot attention. In 2014, municipal Youth Union in collaboration with Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs Bureau, Economics Bureau organized 6 forklift driving training classes, ornamental plants, growing mushroom, orchid… for 158 youth members in An Dien, Chanh Phu Hoa, Hoa Loi, My Phuoc. Commune Youth Union and Farmers' Association, Women’s Association organized are 4 training classes for 92 youth members. In addition, town Youth Union opened 17 training classes of science and technology transfer, experiences of conducting collective, cooperative businesses for 647 members; organized counseling, job introducing for 213 members.

In addition, town Youth Union has helped youth members borrowing start-up capital, maintained groups of capital rotation for home-based businesses. Currently, town Youth Union has 38 groups of capital rotation with total amount of over VND212 million. The town Youth Union also built 2 philanthropic houses worth VND80 million for poor youth members in Phu An and An Dien commune.
