Investigate and collect information on the socio-economic situation of ethnic minorities in 2024

Update: 02-07-2024 | 13:44:35

On July 1, in Minh Hoa commune of Dau Tieng district, the Statistics Department held a launching ceremony to investigate and collect information on the socio-economic situation of 53 ethnic minorities in 2024.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Ngo Van Mit, Director of the Department of Statistics, said that this was a survey conducted by the General Statistics Office in coordination with Committee for Ethnic Minorities (a ministerial-level agency of the Government) to collect information on the socio-economic situation of 53 ethnic minorities nationwide. The survey results are an essential basis for building socio-economic development policies for ethnic minorities and mountainous areas in the period 2026-2030.

The 2024 survey of 53 ethnic minorities is essential as it aims to gather information on population, housing, marriage, health, education, and living conditions. This data will be used by authorities to develop statistical indicators for the national statistical indicator system and the statistical indicator system on ethnic affairs. These indicators will be instrumental in planning and implementing socio-economic development policies for ethnic minority areas from 2026 to 2030. Furthermore, the survey will serve as a foundation for updating the information system and statistical data on ethnic minorities in Vietnam.

The investigation gathered data from July 1 to August 15, 2024, in 54 provinces and centrally run cities. Investigators will visit each household to gather information about population demographics, education, migration, marriage, health insurance usage, employment, women's birth history and contraceptive use (ages 10-49), and details about deceased individuals.
