Update: 26-06-2024 | 13:15:24

Many innovative and effective models have emerged across the province to collaboratively build and protect a sustainable environment. These models and methods serve as inspiration for individuals and groups in their collective efforts to protect the environment.

Promoting green cuisine also aims at spreading the environmental protection message

Good ways multiplied

During visits to various localities in the province, we often encounter women diligently collecting scrap materials, turning them into valuable resources. The Women’s Union’s models, namely “Collecting scrap to raise funds for charitable activities”, “Green House” and “Scrap collecting Women's Club” have been spreading widely, contributing to protecting the environment and supporting women with difficult circumstances.

In Bach Dang commune’s Binh Hung hamlet inTan Uyen city, Ngo Thi Minh Lan, Head of Binh Hung hamlet’s Women's Union introduced the “Women's Club collecting scrap materials, turning them into capital” led by her. Established in 2018 with 12 members from Binh Hung hamlet, the club now attracts 34 members from three hamlets, namely Binh Hung, Binh Chu and Dien Hoa. Mrs. Lan stated: “Our members regularly clean the environment, collect scrap materials daily and sell them. The money from selling scrap materials is used to support the club’s activities, helping members in need by providing interest-free loans, and giving gifts for year-end encouragement. Each year, the club saves around VND 2 million”.

“Collecting scrap for sale is not primarily about the money earned, but about raising public awareness of environmental protection. Many people see the benefits and significance of the activity and willingly contribute scrap to the club. This model demonstrates the strength of unity, determination and the compassion of women”, added Mrs. Lan.

The urban landscape has notably improved in Tan Binh ward’s Tan Phu 1 quarter in Di An city. The streets are cleaner and more spacious, and there is less litter on sidewalks or vacant lots. Nguyen Van Yem, Chairman of Tan Binh ward’s People’s Committee said: “Our ward has major routes like My Phuoc - Tan Van, Nguyen Thi Minh Khai, Le Hong Phong, An Nhon, Cay Da, 42 internal roads and many alleys. With a large area, a dense population, and thriving commerce and services, a lot of waste is generated. Thanks to the efforts by all-level authorities, sectors and espencially the establishment of environmental teams for regular inspections and management, waste generation has decreased significantly”.

Creativity and innovation encouraged

Competitions on environmental protection initiatives play a crucial role in raising public awareness, fostering creativity, promoting action and guiding policy development. These practical activities help solve environmental issues and build a sustainable future for the province.

The 2024 provincial “Plastic Waste Prevention Model Innovation” competition, organized by provincial Youth Union in collaboration with Aeon Mall Binh Duong Canary, was a standout event, attracting many young participants with creative, unique and effective ideas for reducing plastic waste.

The innovation “3D Plastic Pulling Machine, 3D Printer” from Lai Thieu ward’s Young Creativity Club in Thuan An city won first place. Nguyen Cao Ky Anh, leader of the club shared: “This innovation recycles plastic bottles and faulty prints into reusable materials for 3D printing. It can recycle various plastics like PET, PETG, PLA and ABS, which can be used to design plastic components for scientific and daily applications such as gifts, research models, tools…”.

The initiative “Cost-saving Solution for Treating Waste Mud Bags in Wastewater Treatment Systems by Cleaning and Reusing the Bags to Reduce Plastic Waste” by the Youth Union of Phuoc Hoa Rubber Joint Stock Company helps the company reduce 7.5 tons of plastic waste annually. According to Le Quoc Duy, leader of the project, this solution can be widely applied, bringing high economic benefits and achieving second place in the competition.

Nguyen The Tung Lam, Deputy Head of the Environmental Protection Sub-Department stated that the competition was a meaningful and practical activity that raises the community’s awareness and spreads the message of protecting the green planet. The awarded solutions, when implemented, bring positive effects in reducing plastic waste and protecting the environment. Additionally, the local movements and initiatives by associations have contributed to raising public awareness of environmental protection, encouraging creative recycling, spreading positive messages and strengthening community coherence.

Over the past time, provincial movement of “All people take part in environmental protection” was widely promoted with many effective models. Many models, namely provincial Fatherland Front Committee’s “Self-managed Residential Area for Environmental Protection”, provincial Youth Union’s “Youth Flower Roads” and “Removing Advertisements from Electricity Poles”, the Women’s Union’s campaign “Building Families with Five No-s and Three Clean-s for Civilized Urban Development” and the Farmers’ Association’s “Model Road”… were implemented.
