Science and technology competition nurtures and wings students' scientific dreams

With 202 candidates/110 projects submitted for the provincial competition from nine Offices of Education and Training and 21 high schools in the province, the provincial Science and Technology competition for high-school students is considered as an intellectual playground for students, helps them to nurture their passion for scientific research, contributes to the development of students' abilities and qualities.

These days, teachers and students of My Phuoc Junior High School (Ben Cat Town) are overcoming limitations and improving their products to prepare for the national scientific and technological competition.

Intellectual playground

The school year 2022-2023 is the 11th consecutive school year that the Ministry of Education and Training has widely held across the country the Scientific and Technological contest for high school students with the aim of encouraging scientific research activities among students, technical creativity, technology, and applying knowledge of subjects into solving practical problems. This year, Binh Duong provincial scientific and technological contest organized by Provincial Department of Education and Training had 110 projects submitted to the contest, including 63 products of the junior high school’s bloc and 47 products of high school’s bloc with a variety of fields, such as: embedded systems - informatics, chemistry - biology - environment, physics - mechanics - technology, robotics, and intelligent machines... The contest is increasingly receiving a good response from educational managers, staff, parents and students.

As an instructor that has closely followed students for a long time, Nguyen Anh Bang, a physics teacher at Thanh Tuyen High School (Dau Tieng District), said: “In order to have finished products brought to the competition, students spent a long time researching and researching to perfect their projects. They came to the competition with love and passion for serious scientific research. Each product submitted to the competition shows the students' enthusiasm and passion for scientific creation.

Nguyen Van Phong, Deputy Director of Provincial Department of Education and Training, said that the Scientific and Technological contest for high school students is really a useful playground to encourage educational institutions to support science and technology research activities of high school students, create opportunities for high school students to introduce their scientific research results. At the same time, this is an opportunity for students and teachers to learn and exchange experience with each other. The Department of Education and Training also directed educational institutions to continue encouraging students to do scientific research to apply in practice, thereby contributing to innovating teaching methods and developing students' abilities and qualities.

Nurturing a passion for science

Excellently surpassing 110 products of the provincial Scientific and Technological contest for high school students lately, the group of Cu Hoan My and Nghiem Thi Diem Quynh, students of class 9A2, My Phuoc Junior High School (Ben Cat Town), with their project "Smart toilets in schools" won first prize of junior high school’s bloc and was selected to represent Binh Duong province to take part in the national scientific and technological competition.

Stemming from the current situation of toilets in schools and school toilets are also issues concerned many people, with the desire to be able to solve this problem, the group researched, fabricated and tested this project. “This project has been cherished by us for a long time, starting from May to the end of October 2022, the product was completed and brought to the competition. We are very happy to achieve the best result. This is a solid foundation for me and Quynh to continue to realize our dream of researching and creating science and technology on our career path in the future”, said Cu Hoan My.

Also, a topic chosen to represent high school students to take the national exam, these days, the group Nguyen Phan Quynh Nhu and Nguyen Anh Kiet, students of class 12A1, Thanh Tuyen High School (Dau Tieng district), are urgently completing their project named "Equipment to detect Tinopal whitening agent in rice vermicelli based on photoluminescence phenomenon".

Sharing with us, Nguyen Anh Kiet said: “Although the research and implementation process encountered some difficulties, but with our passion, we tried to overcome and complete it. I am very happy and feel more motivated when my project is selected to represent the province to participate in the national contest. Me and Nhu will try our best to overcome limitations to complete and achieve high results at the national competition, bringing glory to the province.

The response and participation of students in the province has shown the meaning and pervasiveness of the scientific and technological contest. Sending our best wishes to the two groups of authors who will have more success with their passionate works, we look forward to another successful year from the province’s scientific and technological products at the national science and technology competition for the academic year 2022-2023.
