Provincial leaders in dialogue with workers and officers of labor unions in Thuan An Town open and straightforward

At Thuan An Town People’s Committee, provincial leaders and leaders of departments and agencies have met up over 200 workers and officers of labor unions in Thuan An Town in open and straightforward manner calling for more care and support of local authorities.

Intention expressed to provincial leaders

At the meeting, workers and labor union officers raised some matters related to benefits of the workers including work, salary, medical insurance, unemployment insurance work safety and sanitation, food safety, traffic jams, pavement occupation, illegal motorcycle race in residential areas, dengue outbreak, and some new regulations of the amended Labor Law. Some workers have been so concerned with resolution of benefits for workers in enterprises abandoned by owners or in debts of salary and/or social insurance. Many have proposed to add up facilities for babysitting and intensified patrol to prevent illegal motorcycle racing in residential areas.

Regarding the indemnification of labor accidents, an unnamed worker of Tombow Vietnam Co. Ltd. informed: “I suffer from labor accidents reducing my working capacity by 34%. Since 2011, I have been offered indemnification of 36% of my minimum salary. In 2014, I was presented with Tet gifts at the cost of VND 1 million by Thuan An Town Post Office. Am I eligible for such indemnification annually?”

Besides, some workers raised direct questions of medical insurance, ID Card procedures, and benefits of female workers.

Thoroughly resolved

Considering the mentioned questions and matters, leaders of departments and agencies have made thorough response to questions of workers and labor union officers. Regarding enterprises abandoned by their owners, functional agencies are making rational guidance for affected workers to file for unemployment insurance, social insurance finalization, and proceedings against such enterprises to liquidate their assets for repayments to the affected workers. For the cases of failing to be physically present for registration of unemployment and social insurance benefits, the affected workers can submit the required documents to Binh Duong Provincial Job Center by post.

As for housing and baby-sitting facilities, Truong Thi Bich Hanh, the Deputy Chair of Provincial Labor Union informed that Binh Duong Province has offered preferential policies of land and taxation to mobilize all economic components to develop social housing and baby-sitting facilities. Compared to regional provinces and cities, Binh Duong Province has done well in initiating social housing projects in 8 areas covering about 40 ha under investment of Becamex IDC. The social housing project of Becamex IDC from 2011 through 2015 includes 37 projects of VND 10,830 billion, satisfying housing needs of 167,000 people. Currently, the project first stage has been inaugurated with 5,000 apartments before 10,000 other apartments in the second stage. Besides, the province has approved investments into 4 commercial and 1 social housing projects of 1,648 apartments satisfying the needs of 3,570 people.s

Regarding medical and education aspects, the province has made great efforts of attracting resources despite the surge of student population in the province. The province has called upon units, enterprises, individuals, and organizations to join up medical care and education for the public.
