Striving to curb inflation

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung on July 9 sent a telegram to relevant ministries and agencies, the people’s committees at all levels, economic groups, and state corporations, asking them to try to curb inflation according to the set plan.

In the telegram, the PM stated that the price of food will increase sharply in some localities in the early days of July, resulting in a negative impact on people’s lives and failing to meet the government’s goals for curbing inflation. To contain inflation rate of 15-17 percent, the Prime Minister has asked chairmen of people’s committees at provincial and municipal levels to strengthen price control and instruct relevant agencies to take strict measures to avoid illegal speculation of goods.

He also called on social and political organizations to co-oridnate strictly to encourage private businesses to become actively involved in curbing inflation.

The Ministry of Finance should co-ordinate with relevant agencies and localities to monitor the development of local and international markets to issue proper tax policies timely and take measures to stabilize the markets, and control the price of electricity, oil and gas to meet the inflation curbing goals set by the government.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade (MoIT) should co-operate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD), Ministry of Health and Ministry of Construction to take measures to promote production, regulate import-export activities and ensure the balance of supply-demand for essential goods.

MARD should co-ordinate with MoIT and people’s committees at provincial levels to strictly control the export of food and foodstuff to bordering countries.

Economic groups, state corporations should actively reduce construction costs and draw up a plan for controlling prices in conformity with the government’s scheme of price stabilisation.

The Ministry of Information and Communication should ask news agencies to timely run articles on the Party, Government’s policies to punish those who have given distorted information on the market prices.
