Vietnam Embassy in Turkey celebrates National Day

 The Vietnam Embassy in Turkey has hosted a great banquet and a solemn ceremony marking the 70thanniversary of National Day (September 2).

 

Those in attendance included Turkish Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Abdurrahman Arici, Party and government officials, heads of diplomatic missions, local business leaders and numerous overseas Vietnamese.

 

In his speech, Ambassador Nguyen The Cuong underscored the significance of National Day reflected in the Declaration of Independence read by President Ho Chi Minh and reviewed the tremendous achievements Vietnam has recorded in the process of national construction and defence towards achieving a goal of " a powerful country with rich people living in an equal, democratic and civilized society.”

The Vietnamese diplomat also highlighted new steps of development in Vietnam-Turkey relations evidenced by high-level exchange visits- the trip to Vietnam by Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu in March 2015, and the Turkey visit by Transport Minister Dinh La Thang in April 2015, and the signing of cooperation documents which has paved the way for enhancing multi-faceted cooperation in the time ahead.

Two-way trade turnover reached US$2.2 billion while Turkey is becoming one of the important markets of Vietnam in West Asia and south Europe.

Cuong expressed fine sentiments and thanked Turkish government and parliamentary leaders and close friends for helping him fulfill his term of office.

On behalf of the Government of Turkey, Deputy Minister Abdurrahman Arici, extended best wishes to Vietnamese leaders and people on the eve of the great event.

He reviewed the development process of bilateral relations and praised Vietnam’s international profile, saying he was impressed by the remarkable achievements of Vietnam in renovation and international integration.

He suggested both sides should intensify high-level delegation exchange, maintain mechanisms for meetings of joint intergovernmental committee and soon negotiate a bilateral free trade agreement (FTA).

On the afternoon of August 26, Ambassador Cuong bade farewell to Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu before concluding his term in Turkey and thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkey for facilitating his work.

Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu applauded Cuong’s contributions to forging bilateral ties   between Vietnam and Turkey and wished the ambassador great success in his new position.

The Turkish Foreign Minister asked Cuong to convey an invitation to visit Turkey to Deputy Prime Minister cum Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh.
