Vietnam, US strive for multi-faceted cooperation

While receiving US Deputy Secretary of State William Joseph Burns in Hanoi on December 13, Mr Dung also proposed that the US government recognize Vietnam as a market economy and offer it the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP).

PM Dung spoke highly of the positive development in the Vietnam-US relations in various areas, including politics, economics and humanitarian aid. He said both countries have cooperated in multilateral forums, contributing to maintaining peace, stability, and cooperation in the region and the world.

The PM praised US cooperation within the framework of the Lower Mekong Initiative (LMI) and asked the US to accelerate the implementation of LMI projects.

The US Deputy Secretary of State affirmed that the US attaches importance to developing multi-faceted cooperation with Vietnam. He said the US wants to establish a strategic partnership with the Southeasat Asian nation and promote cooperation in coping with climate change, eliminating weapons of mass destruction, and maritime security as well as in regional and global issues of mutual concern.

The same day, at a reception for the Secretary of the Mongolian National Security Council, Tsgaandari Enhtuvshin, PM Dung affirmed that Vietnam and Mongolia have nurtured a traditional friendship and Vietnam has always treasured Mongolia’s valuable support in its struggle for national liberation in the past and construction at present. He expressed his desire to continue developing deeper and more effective cooperation between the two countries.

The PM also highlighted the results of the working session between leaders of the Vietnam Ministry of Public Security and the Mongolia National Security Council.

He said he hopes that the Council will continue to cooperate closely with Vietnam, sharing information and experiences in preventing transnational, drug-related and hi-tech crime.

For his part, Mr Enhtuvshin said that Mongolia wants to develop cooperative relations with Vietnam in all fields
