Update: 03-06-2021 | 13:27:56

Yesterday morning (June 2), 17,267 ninth graders across the province took part in the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2021-2022 school year organized by provincial Department of Education and Training (DoET). Amid the complicated development of Covid-19 pandemic, the province’s organization of the exam has not only ensured seriousness and quality, but also met the requirements of pandemic prevention and control.

Ensuring requirements for pandemic prevention and control

At the examination council No. 01 of Hung Vuong Specialized High School in Thu Dau Mot city, the local militia force coordinated with the school to urge parents not to gather in front of the gate school. At the two school gates, medical staff checked each candidate’s body temperature and reminded them to wash their hands with disinfectant liquids or with soap bars at the hand washing basins arranged by the school. Being aware of the danger of the Covid-19 pandemic, all the candidates wore masks throughout the exam.

At the examination council of Nguyen Thi Minh Khai Secondary School in Thu Dau Mot city, in addition to the school's staff, the local medical staff also took part in checking candidates ‘body temperature. The school's security staff also reminded candidates not to gather for Covid-19 prevention and control.

In the face of the complicated development of Covid-19 pandemic, provincial DoET has directed examination councils to strictly implement measures against the pandemic. The sector has required candidates and examiners to strictly follow the "5K" message of the Ministry of Health, especially making medical declarations; having body temperature check; wearing medical masks during the exam. The sector has also announced and given guidance for candidates who are currently in the blockade areas for Covid-19 prevention and control; F2 cases who do not go to the exam councils to take the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2021-2022 school year.

Leaders of provincial DoET said that the department has directed chairpersons and vice-chairpersons of the examination councils to coordinate with the local authorities and police forces to guide parents to strictly comply with keeping distance when picking up candidates for Covid-19 prevention and control; ensure order, avoiding  traffic jams around examination councils; organize body temperature measurement for examiners, candidates, and service staff. In case of candidates with body temperature at over 37.50 ℃, they will be taken to a separate room if their body temperature remains unchanged after 10 minutes. In case of having a notice that candidates ‘relatives change to F0, F1 cases, the department will promptly consult the local steering committee for Covid-19 prevention and control for settlement.

Nguyen Van Chet, Head of Thu Dau Mot city’s Division of Education and Training said that the division has instructed  schools to select and organize examination councils for the 10th grade entrance exam, the 6th grade entrance exams for the 2021- 2022 school year, the 2021 high school graduation exam with material facilities and Covid-19 prevention- control ensured; make compulsory medical and epidemiological declarations for examiners and candidates. Schools selected as test venues must disinfect exam areas; be equipped with masks, antiseptic liquid, body temperature monitors, strictly follow the "5K" message of the Ministry of Health.

Realizing the danger of the Covid-19 pandemic, the local sector of education and training has always reminded parents and candidates at exam councils to strictly comply with measures against the pandemic. However, there were still large crowds of parents at some examination councils. Nguyen Van Phong, Deputy Director of provincial DoET assessed: “The examination situation at schools is serious. But, at Thuan Giao Secondary School’s examination council in Thuan An City, around 100 parents gathered in front of the school gate. The school asked for the city’s police to invite parents to disperse, and return at 10:15 to pick up their children. However, only a few parents dispersed, so we called on leader of the city’s People's Committee to send more support forces."

Seriousness being put on top

At the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2021-2022 school year, candidates have to take tests on three compulsory subjects: literature, mathematics and English on June 2 and 3. For candidates who take the entrance exam to Hung Vuong Specialized High School, they will continue taking the exam on June 4 and 5.

Provincial DoET plans to enroll 70% of secondary school graduates who have registered for the 10th grade entrance exam for  the 2021-2022 school year. Of these, there are 280 enrollment targets for Hung Vuong Specialized High School. Based on the test scores of candidates and the actual situation of each school and each locality, provincial DoET will adjust enrollment targets appropriately.

Provincial DoET has also closely coordinated with relevant sectors and localities to ensure that the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2021-2022 school year is objective, fair and serious. Heads of examination councils and examiners are transferred between districts, towns and cities. The department also does not mobilize civil servants and public employees who have children or younger siblings to supervise the examination; those who are on probation also do not participate in this exam.
