Binh Duong environment protection fund is for non-profit activities

Update: 13-05-2010 | 00:00:00

Mrs. Phan Thi Hoa, who is acting Director of Environment Protection Fund (EPF) under Department of Natural resources and Environment, has confirmed that the fund is non-profitable and for the sake of province’s sustainable development and environment protection and remedies in all fields and industries.

Dai Loi livestock feeder private company in Tan Uyen has successfully built up waste water treating system thanks to the VND-320-mln loans from EPF. Meanwhile, Binh Duong Construction and Urban one-member Company can now buy more vehicles for collecting rubbish and waste to maintain 24/24 operation. Many other companies have also been successful in environment protection thanks to fund supports from EPF.

Workers of Binh Duong Construction and Urban Company are on their shifts collecting rubbish.

EPF offers favorable loans rates and prioritizes loans to small and medium enterprises and enterprises who wish to build environment protection project. EPF has received some 22 profiles registering for loans from enterprises since is establishment.

EPF management board has accepted loans for 7 projects of nearly VND 10 billion. Most of enterprises observe regulations and return nearly VND 350 million of the loans and interests. However, difficulties facing EPF are that enterprises are disqualified for loans because of asset conditions as well as mortgage to banks.

Besides, being lack of operation capital and the loans limitation of VND 3 billion for each project has challenged bigger projects with wide scale of construction.

To resolve that, EPF has cooperated with Environment Protection Body to open training classes and propaganda about environment protection to over 1,000 enterprises outside industrial parks.

Officials for EPF added that some expected VND 100 mln will be offered to propaganda activities on World’s Environment Day and campaign to clean up the world among bodies and unions of districts and towns.

Mrs. Phan Thi Hoa confirmed the additional VND 19 bln capital earned from budget, charter capital, environment protection charges and interests from loans. So as to support enterprises in environment protection, EPF will continue investigation of and disbursement to about 10 project at the estimated cost of VND 15 bln or 250% higher than 2009.

Despite difficulties in operation, EPF has made efforts to become an effective financial tool in environment protection, helping Binh Duong province to be clean, neatly, and civilized.
