Lastly, the provincial department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Dau Tieng district People’s Committee jointly held a meeting to respond ‘the national week on clean water and environmental hygiene’ 2010 at Dau Tieng township.

‘The national week on clean water and environmental hygiene’ initiated by the Prime Minister has become an annual activity taking place from April 29 to May 6 and has been maintained till the World Environment Day (June 5). ‘The national week on clean water and environmental hygiene’ has been really become a festive day of the entire society in response of all people, changing the quality of living for residents, especially people in rural areas.

Over 17 years of implementing the National Target Program for Rural Water Supply and Sanitation, the province has reached encouraging results. In details, the program has already helped provide access to clean water for 73% of the local rural population, and 84% of rural households now have hygienic latrines.

Agencies, mass bodies has hung panel posters with slogan of ‘warmly responding the national week on clean water and environmental hygiene’ whilst public areas, industrial parks have been stuck panel posters with the message of ‘Clean water is a precious resource but not endless one, we should protect for long usage’, ‘Clean water and sanitation are criteria of a new rural area’, ‘ensuring clean water and sanitation is a responsibility of the entire society’ and among others. Besides, promulgations have been spurred to raise awareness on using clean water and hygienic latrines.   

Right after the launching ceremony, youths and unionists launched many activities of holding meetings, planting green trees, repairing water supply works. Hong Phuong Thao, a pupil of Nguyen Binh Khiem high school, said ‘In response to the national week on clean water and environmental hygiene, I often join in activities on environmental hygiene in my school’.

‘The national week on clean water and environmental hygiene’ has created a great significance in mobilizing the public to involve in activities of water resource protection, raising residents’ awareness on sanitation and clean water usage.

At the ceremony, Pham Hoang Ha, vice chairman of the provincial People’s Committee urged everyone to protect water resource and environment, improving health and living environment for the sake of local industrialization and modernization.
