Hallmark of 15-year volunteer

Early January 30, provincial Youth Union held a ceremony to review the 15-year implementation of the volunteer movement from 2000 to 2014. The “Flame of volunteer is lighted forever” program was also organized. This was the chance for the local youth to look back at volunteer results done over the past time and define orientations for the local youth movements in the coming time.

Arousing youth’s ardour

During the past 15 years, provincial Youth Unions at all levels effectively organized the annual volunteer activities, including the Summer Voluntary Youth Campaign, the Youth Month, the Week for Young Workers…

Nguyen Pham Duy Trang, Secretary of provincial Youth Union said: “The local youth volunteer activities have actually become a great campaign with the involvement of many young people, arousing their volunteer and ardour and this is also an environment for them to make contributions to socio-economic development of the locality as well as of the whole country…”.

Volunteer activities done by the local youth over the past time contributed to beautifying Binh Duong homeland. Particularly, the local youth cleaned up more than 500 kilometers of road, grew 72,000 green trees and upgraded 650 kilometers of rural road. Especially, 60,000 youngsters got involved in the “Voluntary Saturday”, “Green Sunday” campaigns with many significant activities in environmental protection, including tidying up roads, eradicating illegal advertising boards, planting green trees, clearing canals, collecting water hyacinth on rivers…All contributed to raising the local youth’s awareness of environmental protection.

For social welfare

The local youth also well realized “Paying debt of gratitude” activities over the past time. Particularly, they cleaned up nearly 15,000 martyrs’ tombs at the local martyrs’ cemeteries and monuments; organized a program named “When drinking water, remember its source”; visited and presented gifts to heroic Vietnamese mothers; donated more than 400 houses of compassion worth more than VND4.1bln to needy people; provided free medical check-up, medicine and gifts for policy beneficiaries and poor people in and out of the province with a total expense of more than VND2.8bln.

In addition, provincial Youth Unions at all levels took good care of young workers’ lives via many significant activities with a total value of more than VND9.8bln…

Volunteer movements promoted

Possibly speaking, the local youth volunteer activities during the past 15 years got more diversified, plentiful and were in line with the local development situation. They were also expanded to remote and difficult areas nationwide.

According to Mrs.Trang, the local youth volunteer activities will be promoted in the coming time. And they will be improved in both content and form in line with the local real situation. Especially, provincial Youth Union will pay attention to forming up short-time youth volunteer squads that are responsible for solving issues on legal consultancy, traffic safety, public healthcare…
