Local urbanization rate reaches 80.17%

Early February 12, provincial Department of Construction held a conference to review its activities in 2019, extend orientations, tasks for 2020, in attendance of Tran Thanh Liem, Vice-Secretary of provincial Party Committee, Chairman of provincial People’s Committee; Nguyen Thanh Truc, Vice-Chairman of provincial People’s Committee and leaders of some sectors, departments in the province.

According to a report by provincial Department of Construction, the province’s rate of urbanization as of 2019 reached 80.17%, a year-on-year increase of 2.01%. The province is now home to 10 cities, namely TDM, the first-class city in 2017; Thuan An and Di An, the third-class cities in 2017; Ben Cat and Tan Uyen, the third-class cities in 2018; DauTieng in Dau Tieng district, Phuoc Vinh in Phu Giao district, Lai Uyen in Bau Bang district, Tan Thanh, Tan Binh in North Tan Uyen, the fifth-class cities.

The sector also gained some other targets. Particularly, there were 99.6% of city-dwellers in use of clean water; 98% of solid waste collected and treated, up 3.36% compared to 2018…

In 2020, the sector will strive to reach the rate of urbanization at 82%. The average housing area of the whole province will be 30 square meters per person. There will be also around 90% of city-dwellers in use of clean water…

Addressing the event, Mr.Liem asked for provincial Department of Construction (DoC) to advise provincial Party Committee, People’s Committee on realizing breakthrough programs, plans for the local urban development. Especially, provincial DoC needs to outline a plan on urban management training for the sector’s staff in order to well realize their State administration in the urban domain at the local development requirements.

On this occasion, provincial leaders awarded the second-class Labor Medal to an individual and the third-class Labor Medals to 4 individuals.
