The first day of the national high school graduate exam 2023: Candidates are confident, exam questions are reasonable

On June 28, more than 14,000 students in Binh Duong entered the first exam day of the high school graduation exam in 2023. In the morning, the contestants started with the literature test. This is the only essay test in the exam, the test time was 120 minutes. In the afternoon of the same day, the contestants took a math test in the form of multiple-choice with a duration of 90 minutes. The first day of the exam is judged to be safe, serious, and procedural.

More than 14,000 contestants in the province complete the first day of the national high school graduate exam 2023.

Confidently enter the exam

On the first day of the exam, candidates were present very early at 28 testing sites in the province, ready to enter the first day with great determination. At the testing sites, examination staff, police and volunteers came very early to assist and guide contestants, parents, no contestants were late for test.

Truong Mai Quoc An, a student of Huynh Van Nghe High School (Tan Uyen City), said: “Before the first test, I was a little nervous, however because of the encouragement of my family, I was less nervous. I try to do well in each test. The enthusiastic encouragement and guidance of volunteers helped me to be more confident before entering the exam room."

At more than 10 o'clock, bright faces came out at testing sites after finishing the first test. As one of the first students coming out from Chu Van An Junior High School’s testing site (Thu Dau Mot City), Su The Hung, a student of Ngo Thoi Nhiem High School (Thu Dau Mot City), said: "The literature passage of the today test is my favorite part, because it has high artistic value. From this passage, I wrote an essay expressing my thoughts on the need for balancing emotions in life. With this test, I think that contestants with average academic ability or higher would get about 6-7 points."

The afternoon math test took place quite late. However, some contestants came quite early to keep their spirits up before entering the second test. After 90 minutes, stepping out of the exam site of Di An High School (Di An City), Tran Hoang Anh Thu, a student from Di An High School, said: “This year's math problem is neither easy nor too difficult. I did the first 40 questions, and the last 10 questions are to differentiate student’s knowledge, so I'm not sure. I've tried my best; I hope tomorrow's exams would be as good as today."

Although it was hot and sunny during the exam day, many parents stayed at testing sites to give encouragement to their children. Nguyen Van Hoi (Tan Binh town, Bac Tan Uyen district), said that although his son took the exam with a relaxed spirit due to his high results from the competency test, he felt nervous thus he came to cheer his son on this exam. He hopes that his son will achieve high results to fulfill his wish.

Sitting outside the gate of a testing site, occasionally looking inside, Nguyen Dinh Quang in Tan Dong Hiep ward of Di An city, said: “Today I take time off from work to accompany my son in this important milestone. He entered the exam, but I am also quite nervous waiting outside. Our family only knows how to encourage and create the best conditions for him to comfortably sit the exam and get the desired results."

Guarantee a safe, serious exam

On the first exam day, all testing sites in Binh Duong were well prepared, well controlled the situation and created the most favorable conditions for contestants. Nguyen Van Ty, Head of exam board No. 6 located at Chu Van An Junior High School (Thu Dau Mot City), said that this exam board had 576 contestants, 1 contestant was absent due to hospitalization. The students were divided into 24 exam rooms with 84 officials and teachers on duty, including 71 invigilators. After disseminating regulations of the exam, the board also gave instructions on how to tear the seal of envelopes containing exam questions, how to distribute exam questions, how to write the number of test sheets, how to handle situations when there is a need for assistance, violation of exam regulations... The board also prepared carefully and thoughtfully the exam organization, allocated invigilators and security forces to have a safe and serious exam.

Due to the nature, significance and large scale of the exam, the Provincial High School Graduation Examination Steering Committee directed the Steering Committees of districts, towns, cities and test sites to coordinate smoothly and continuously works to ensure a safe exam and achieve the goal. Like previous years, volunteer squads staying outside testing sites to assist the contestants with drinking water, cold towels, pens, rulers etc. ready to distribute free of charge to students and parents waiting outside school gates; helped to bringing contestants home to get things and then back to the testing sites... All were to accompany and give strength to contestants in the most important exam of their life.

Nguyen Van Phong, Deputy Director of Provincial Department of Education and Training, said that on the first exam day, at testing sites throughout the province, 100% of officials, teachers and testing sites worked on time, rigorously and seriously. The high school graduation exam 2023 has received the enthusiastic support and responsibility of departments, branches, localities and units. On the second day of the exam, the department directed testing sites to continue upholding the sense of responsibility, ready to implement contingency plans to ensure serious, fair, objective, safe and regulated goals.
