Thailand holds by-election in five provinces

Thailand held by-election at six polling stations in five provinces on April 21 after inconsistencies were found there in the general election.

Specifically, the Election Commission called for the poll return in Bangkok’s Bang Kapi district, Phetchabun province’s Khao Kho district, Phitsanulok province’s Phrom Phiram district, Yasothon province’s Maha Chana Chai district, and Lampang province’s Ko Kha district.

The same day, Lertwiroj Kowattana from the Election Commission (EC) of Thailand said the EC received more than 300 complaints of suspected fraud in the general election but most of them did not warrant new voting.

According to observers, the result of the voting will not considerably change the outcomes of the general election which will be announced on May 9.

Secretary General of the Pheu Thai Party Phumtham Wechayachai affirmed on April 21 that the party should have the first right to form a new government as it won the most number of seats at the House of Representatives.

According to the preliminary election result, the Phalang Pracharat party won the second largest number of seats at the house, but the largest number of popular votes.
