On the afternoon of September 16, Nguyen Van Loi, Member of the Central Party Committee and Secretary of provincial Party Committee, chaired an online meeting on storm prevention and control in the province. The meeting was attended by Mai Hùng Dang, Member of provincial Party Standing Committee and Permanent Vice Chairman of provincial People’s Committee, along with leaders of departments, agencies and localities at different locations.

Since early this year, the province has experienced 14 natural disasters, resulting in the deaths of 2 people who were swept away by floodwaters and 4 others suffering minor injuries from trees falling on houses. The natural disasters caused damage to 25 homes, flooding in 5 classrooms, destruction of 4 houses used for growing netted muskmelons, damage to 91.25 hectares of rice and 6.62 hectares of crops, the falling of 0.4 hectares of rubber trees under cultivation, the collapse of 4 electrical poles, 47 trees. Additionally, 4 welcome gates, billboards, 80 meters of fencing were destroyed, and several other assets were damaged. The total estimated property damage was approximately VND 2.196 billion, similar to the same period in 2023 (during the first 9 months of 2023, the damage amounted to VND 2.198 billion).

Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue mobilized forces to search for victims swept away by floodwaters, transport the injured to hospitals, and visited the families of victims. They also managed traffic, supported local residents in cleaning up disaster sites, and repaired houses. Meanwhile, the local functional agencies verified damage, processed assistance for affected families, and helped people recover from the consequences of natural disasters to restore their lives as soon as possible.

During the meeting, representatives from districts, cities, departments discussed and proposed solutions for improving natural disaster prevention efforts to minimize potential damage.

In his directive speech at the conference, Mr. Loi emphasized that the work of disaster prevention and control must strictly implement the duty regime, without complacency or negligence. Local press, radio and media agencies must regularly update and promptly broadcast information on weather conditions and disaster warnings to inform the public and help them proactively avoid risks.

Local authorities are required to mandate contractors working on drainage systems, bridge and road projects to maintain around-the-clock on-site warnings and supervision, install danger signs in hazardous areas. Most importantly, the public and vehicles must not be allowed to enter flood-prone or fast-moving water zones during storms.

They must prioritize the safety of people's lives and minimize property damage during the storm season while promptly addressing and supporting those affected by storms...
