The whole country has 93.6 million people having health insurance

On April 16, Vietnam Social Insurance held a video conference summarizing 15 years of Directive No. 38-CT/TW dated September 7, 2009 of the Secretariat on promoting health insurance in the new situation. Attending at Binh Duong endpoint was Le Minh Ly, Director of the Provincial Social Insurance.

According to Vietnam Social Insurance, before the Secretariat issued Directive No. 38-CT/TW, in 2008, there were only 39.7 million people participating in health insurance nationwide, a coverage rate of 46.1% of the population. By 2023, the whole country had 93.6 million people having health insurance, an increase of 2.3 times compared to 2008, the coverage rate reached 93.35% of the population. In addition, every year, on average, there are over 150 million people examined and treated medically, and Health Insurance Fund paid out over 100,000 billion VND. In Binh Duong, by the end of 2023, the whole province had 2,550,000 people participating in health insurance, reaching a rate of 93%, exceeding the target assigned by the Prime Minister. During the implementation of Directive No. 38-CT/TW, the Provincial Steering Committee closely followed programs and plans of the Central and the province, forecast the local practical situation to carry out tasks well. The provincial Social Insurance sector has coordinated with relevant sectors to advise the Provincial People's Committee to promulgate policies supporting health insurance premiums for farmers, the poor, near-poor, ethnic minorities, and disadvantaged groups; Along with that, to actively mobilized businesses and philanthropists to contribute, each year give thousands of health insurance cards to poor, disadvantaged, and lonely households...

In the coming time, the entire social insurance industry will continue to closely follow the tasks and solutions stated in Directive No. 38-CT/TW, striving from 2025 onwards to reach over 95% of the population participating in health insurance, moving towards universal health insurance.
